OpenGL
Open Graphics Library
A widely used cross-platform application programming interface (API) for developing interactive 2D and 3D graphics applications. This open standard was initially developed by Silicon Graphics in 1992, and is now managed by an independent consortium, the OpenGL Architecture Review Board. With OpenGL, programmers writing graphics applications don't have to worry about writing for a specific operating system or type of hardware; the applications will run correctly on OpenGL-compatible hardware and software.
