Intro: The Apple iMAC Core 2 Duo (17-inch, 2GHz) is a Core 2 Duo-based, general-purpose computer.Compared to other general-purpose desktop computers on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $1,075.This PC also comes with a 17-inch flat panel display supporting 1440 x 900 resolution.This PC comes with 1 GB RAM, and a 160GB hard disk.

Noteworthy Features: Has a DVD? RW(+ R DL) disc drive, which is more preferable than some similarly priced desktop computers.Also, this desktop computer has a stereo sound output mode.This is more favorable than the average desktop computer on the market today, but is to be expected for a desktop computer of this price.The Core 2 Duo based CPU installed on this machine is fast enough to handle demanding applications, such as digital video.

Suitability: A consumer level desktop computer, suited for basic computing, plus digital photo sorting, audio appreciation, and entertainment applications.Also comes with advanced word processing software -- fine for most serious business or academic document authors.However, comes with a DVD writer, allowing you to convert home movies from your digital camcorder onto DVD's.You can archive videos, photos, audio files, and all the email from your cousin onto CDs for easy storage with the included CD recorder.

Summary: I'm a genuine "switcher" - after 15 years of Windows use, I finally got so fed up I bought an IMac. I have to admit that I am very satisfied - it really lives up to its billing. I thought mac addicts were just biased - but there is a lot of truth to all of their claims. Beautiful, easy to use, stable, powerful ... this is a sweet system. There is definitely a learning curve for longtime Windows users.

Video Rendering on the fly!

Pros: One wire for the whole machine, and happens to be the power cable. Video rendering in iMovie for a 5 min clip took 2 seconds.

Cons: Dead Pixels. Taking it back and exchanging it, Apple works with their customers.

Wow!! It is awesome!

Pros: It contains more free software that is usefull than even a mac lover would expect.

It works - and it works well

Pros: compact - It is a Mac - can (and does) run windows - not too expensive

Cons: HD a bit small - cord on keyboard way to short

Summary: I was not happy to see Apple drop Motorola as their CPU chip provider and switch over to Intel (Evil Inside?) processors. But I retract any negative comments I made about that transition. Even with Rosetta running non-Intel optimized apps, this lil' baby rocks. And by adding another Gig of RAM (up from 1G to 2G), I've never seen such a speed increase across the board. Faster and much more responsive to user input. With the better video card and more memory, don't even considering the cheaper of the 17" model. This unit is worth the extra. A winner!
