Set up was easy; sinmply followed the included instructions and was scanning within 15 minutes. I use this to scan documents, magazine articles and the occasional photograph and my first few scans left me wondering about the wisdom of this purchase as they seemed to lack the detail I'd become accustomed to with my (very) old HP 5100c. However, as I experimented with various settings, modes, etc., the results surpassed those of my old machine and a few of the newer models I've looked at. I am especially impressed with the smooth interface I experienced between the scanned item and Microsoft Word, allowing me to edit pictures to fit allotted space in documents I had prepared. Had I wanted a machine to scan slides, I would have shopped for one with that capability, so I cannot comment on the LiDE 90's functioning in that respect. Bottom line: This scanner does what I want it to do, and it does it very well indeed. Read more

This is a great personal scanner for anyone scanning documents and regular photos. I use a lot of scanners since I work in graphic design at a few television stations. This scanner lacks some of the high end features like negative and slide scanning, and it's speed can be improved. However, if you are looking for a scanner with a compact desk footprint, under $100 (got mine for $70), and great quality scanner...THAT'S ALSO PORTABLE...Then this scanner is for you.

The Quality?

For text documents, the scan are razor sharp and clean.

For photo Scanning, this thing is great for most magazine print jobs, and almost all photo scanning for personal projects. The colors are strong, and the detail is very crisp.

Final highlights:

I have this scanner hooked up to my portable workstation laptop. This scanner is great for that purpose since it's ultra light and compact, but also that this scanner draws it's power directly from the USB cable. That's right! No need to find a power outlet for the scanner. SO when I'm on the road for a graphic gig, I can scan on the go.

I really like cheap electronic gear that may impress me after I've used it awhile.Besides what do I have to lose?Only $80!
So now I'm scanning away at my piles of paper(estimated completion date of this project is 2062 AD)and I have no complaints.Since this is my first scanner I really don't have much basis for comparison.
When I zoom in on the text it's quite legible.I printed some copies and they looked good to me, a casual user.I've really got to give the computer scientists credit for this little device!
How many scans will I get out of it?200 or 20,000? At this price I'm willing to see. Read more
