Great Value

Summary: I researched printers on Cnet and other sites for about a week before I made my purchase. I had a need for a printer to work with my work PC laptop and my personal Mac laptop. I have a wirless network at home so the printer had to have a USB 2.0 option. And also the printer had to work with both PC's and Mac.

The printer at first glance would seemingly be a photo printer. Atleast that what Canon is advertising, but while the photo copying and duplicating portion of this printer is pretty good, the text portion of every day printing either in color or b&w is pretty good. The setup took about 10 minutes to complete, and the install disk was a breeze to go through. The Mac connectivity took 2 minutes to connect, and once I installed the software on my PC it was up running in no time. I used the MAC airport software on the PC to get the PC to connect wirelessly to the Airport and printer, and it works flawlessly.

The overall performance of this printer for me is 8.5. It would be really great if HP and Canon come out with a smaller design printer that was wirless and didnt need to connect to your router. I purchased it Circuit City which had it at $179. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but the perfomance so far is subperb. So its worth it.

Summary: Purchased today, so what have done so far has been clean clear and crisp. I use Mac and installation was easy. I printed text and pics with brilliant speed and quality. Operation is quite and smooth. I was just blown away with the speed of printing pics, a 6x4 in 16.5 seconds and quality better than my entry level Canon I used previously.I thought the old printer was good for the money so I was expecting lots from this machine. So far it has amazed me. I recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for an all in one except fax facility, you will not be disappointed with your purchase.

Summary: I haven't bought a new printer in quite a number of years, so I guess anything is going to seem like a huge leap. But this printer is just great! It's got all the capabilities that you'd expect in an all-in-one printer, and the quality is fantastic. It only takes a few seconds to pump out a full-color page, and it's always accurate.

The printer navigation is just fantastic, with all of the options displayed on a bright LCD that flips up to show the navigation wheel and all the other great little buttons.

My only complaint is the setup CDs litter your computer with many different programs for each task, as opposed to having it an all in one suite. They take up quite a bit of room and there is an annoying tray icon with a process running that takes up some valuable memory usage.

But overall an amazing all-in-one printer, I would highly recommend it to anybody who needs many features for a low price.

Summary: It doesn't matter what mode you are in... copy B&W, copy color, photos... every ink cartridge is checked for fullness before printing, and if an empty cartridge is detected, the printer will NOT print.

This may not seem like a problem, but right now, my printer will not recognize THREE of the ink tanks... yellow blue and magenta. I can't make so much as a simple copy without replacing these three (full) ink cartridges! This makes the PIXMA 610 outrageously expensive to own, even though the initial pricing is attractive.

Then, to add insult to injury, I reported this to Canon. The refuse to acknowledge there is a problem! They will only fess up to "it's probably a defective cartridge" and wouldn't even log my concern that it is a problem with the printer's ink recognition capability.

Until Canon is willing to address this issue, I strongly recommend nobody purchase this machine.

It was easy to install and easy to use. I have used it for copying and scanning, loading photos from an SD card directly into the printer, as well as for regular printing. So far everything is great.
