Summary: This multifunction printer is good for printing and scanning documents, and that's about it. It is very fast and quiet.
I tried printing a photo with the MP160 one time, just to see how it would do. Just as I had expected, the photo quality was pretty terrible. I use the Canon iP6600 for photos (and it is AMAZING...). Do not rely on this printer for photos.
The scanner has been great for documents and low-quality photos, but it does just okay with higher resolution photos.
If you are looking for a printer/scanner to print and scan documents, and scan some photos for internet/email use only, then this is a fine, economical choice. If you are looking to print or scan high-quality photos, consider the MP600. It's about 100 bucks more expensive than the MP160, but it's worth it. The MP600 uses photo-quality ink and has a MUCH better scanner.
I got the MP160 at Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving for 20 dollars. I consider that an exceptional value.
The retail price of $89.99 is reasonable.

Pros: It starts, it runs...it prints black and white really nice like.
Cons: Color Print..splotches where splotches aren't supposed to be.
Summary: Sorry folks....now I know why it costs $70 and has a $70 rebate. Maybe the 'better' one is better, but this one doesn't cut it.

Summary: With average use this printer barely lasted past the 1 year warranty. My last printer was a HP and lasted well over 5 years! I emailed Canon Support and they sent me the phone # of the nearest service center - which informed me the repair would cost more than the purchase price of a new printer! The other option was a "generous" offer from Canon that they call their Customer Loyalty Program - a one time oportunity to purchase another printer at a "discounted" price with a special code. It turned out to be a measely 15% - which a simple search online found the same printers much cheaper than their "discount" at a number of stores, like Circuit City - with free shipping even. So I'm thinking the "Customer Loyalty" is loyalty to THEM, certainly not loyalty to their customers!!! Very disappointing! I will go back to HP.
