Summary: I am extremely disappointed in the Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen. The price is great
for your normal everyday web surfing and misc apps. But not for graphic design. I have an ULTRA SHARP 2005 20" WS. The color is vivid. Viewing angles are great, sitting down, standing up, from the side, on your head. On the Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen and after using an external monitor calibration tool, the color is dull, angles are poor (if i stand, colors get washed out). Very, very disappointed. I guess you get what you pay for. On top of that i went dual screen so i have two Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen that will be going back to DELL. Now i have to tell my wife that i need the ULTRA SHARP back or drop another $300 for two ULTRA SHARP 2007 20" WS. Not going to be a good weekend for me.
PS. Nothing on the DELL website says anthing about the screen colors, although the "SALES" rep told me that the color is more vivid with the ULTRA SHARP. And he told me this before i complained about the quality on the Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen.

Summary: I just bought a new MacBook Pro and needed a value priced external display to hook up to it. This 22" Dell LCD for about $330.00 hit the spot. Its case and stand design are sleek compared to some of the other designs out there. (except maybe Apple's awesome but pricey displays) If you are looking for spot-on color accuracy and ultra high resolutions, this display is not for you.
But if you are looking for some more real estate for normal tasks such as web browsing, e-mail, MS Office documents, instant messaging, etc, this display will definitely meet your needs. Value is what this is all about.

Pros: Excellent max resolution for the money, Nice, narrow form factor including stand base. DVI and RGB plugs.
Cons: Can display white text on black background as it "flips" modes during loading games, etc...

If you get it, be thankful, and move on. 5 years ago, I got a 22 inch Sony LCD monitor at work. It cost my company $1500. This is as good, if not better, at much lower price. The toggleable RGB/DVI mode makes it so that when I bring my laptop home from work, and need a "larger screen", I can plug my laptop into this thing...toggle to RGB, and go to town with 22in diag of real-estate.

This display is terrible - text is jagged - "HD" images look more like broadcast TV and it takes about an hour of playing with both computer and onscreen settings to get a picture that isn't pale, blue, dark, etc...
Stay away from this product...

Here's the bad news.
Why does the monitor disable half the menu system? Because it's plugged into a DVI port, THEREFORE you CANNOT adjust the sharpness levels OR let the monitor do AUTO ADJUST. Where is the logic to that??? You don't provide any tweaking tools on the CD.
The monitor + button does not let me go up, but it works because it at least responds to switching Digital and Analog.
Right now, I don't even know why but the LCD flickers like its a CRT.
Note to self...and to the rest of you, PLEASE don't buy Dell monitors. Stick with Samsung, yes it's expensive, but it's so much more worth it. My Samsung 710N 17" LCD has a better colour reproduction than this.
I already heard enough rumors saying that Dell monitors are made by LG. And yes, I have tried LG monitors, they gave me the exact same pain. Every monitor I bought from LG, it has a dead pixel.
I'm sticking to this monitor because it's widescreen. I just wasted $300 on this.

Pros: Great color and viewing angle. It's very bright, but that's why I bought an LCD in the first place. The images are very clear. Solid monitor.
Cons: The stand only tilts, it does not slide up and down. No big deal.

Summary: This monitor is great for the money. You can't beat it right now really. However, if you demand great picture quality, you might want to look else where. I agree with a lot of the other reviewers regarding this monitor's performance. The back lighting is a problem, and the color and contrast aren't the greatest. However, it suits me because I wasn't looking for a high end monitor anyway. It gets the job done just fine.
