Product brief
Intro: The HP Pavilion Slimline s3120n - Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz is an Athlon 64 X2-based, basic desktop PC.Compared to other budget PCs on the market, it is expensive at around $790.This PC comes with 2 GB RAM, and a 320GB hard drive.
Noteworthy Features: Has a DVD? RW(? R DL) / DVD-RAM disc drive, which is more preferable than some similarly priced PCs.
Weaker Features: None noted, given available product data.
Suitability: Suited for homes or businesses where price is a concern. Also comes with advanced word processing software -- fine for most serious business or academic writers. However, preserve favorite home movies for future generations by saving them onto DVD with this computer's DVD burner.Make sharing photographs with offline friends easier: put them on a disc with the CD recorder in this computer.
Value: Notwithstanding its expensive price, this PC has great features for the money.
Suggestions: (1) Using this PC's Firewire (1394) port, you can connect to many digital camcorders and other equipment and rapidly upload data to the computer's hard drive.(2) If you plan to be playing the latest 3-D games, you may want to invest in a more powerful video card from NVidia or ATI, which are popular with the gaming community (requires an open AGP or PCIe slot).

Tech issues already!!!!
by mamma Davis on November 16, 2007
Pros: Nice and small - fits anywhere., price is good
Cons: Have already had the motherboard replaced and now other items are not working! I haven't even had this computer for 90 days!

Summary: This is a piece of junk! I bought this computer at the end of August, and I had to have the motherboard replaced by the end of October! I have just recieved it back from the repair center, and now Windows Media Palyer will not work and it does not recognize the TV tuner hardware anymore! I have called HP on this many times and their solution is to do a system recovery - I have done this TWICE without success!!! This all takes place within a week of getting it back from the recovery center. It is like HP is reluctant to do anything about this. I now have to wait 86 hours before a case manager will even attempt to call me back!
I don't know what the next step is - but I will NEVER buy another HP again!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Fine while it lasted

Pros: It was a good computer for about 11 months
Cons: HP didn't stand by its warranty after hard drive crashed

Summary: I won't bore you with the details, but HP's customer service is TERRIBLE. I just want to echo all of those who say do NOT deal with HP. I liked the computer while it worked, but when anything breaks you are on your own. Phone calls to people who speak marginal English who don't know much about computers in the first place, service orders that just sit for weeks, don't get 5CR3w3D like I did. Please, don't get an HP.

I received this piece of garbage from H/P to "compensate" me for struggling with a previously purchased H/P machine for 11 months. 11 months of hours and hours of wasted time with customer "service;" 11 months of being refused to give me a place to send that machine for servicing; finally "allowing" me to send that machine for servicing-and finally sending it in twice and having it returned working even worse than before the first servicing and then NOT EVEN TURNING ON, after the second. (Imagine, a company that can't even fix it's own equipment.)
Now i have this H/P computer-it works even worse, straight out of the box.
This time however, i've learned my lesson-i haven't wasted hours with customer service, or emails to the company-i just will never purchase another H/P or Compaq product and hope that others like us, will continue to spread the word-NEVER BUY FROM H/P OR COMPAQ.
To list all the things that are wrong with these machines would take a multi-page diary. See the other reviews and multiply by infinity. (Once again: imagine a company that ships a second computer to compensate for one's difficulties-AND THAT ONE DOESN'T WORK EITHER!) -

Summary: From the 1st day I opened the product I began having problems. 1st I could not burn back up recovery disks. Then we had to have the motherboard repaired within two months. Now it is back for motherboard repair and we have only owned it for 7 months and of that, it was in for repairs for 4 weeks. HP customer service refuses to admit that it could just be defective!

I did have the TV tuner fail after only a few uses. HP sent me a new one which was very easy to install. I bought this machine brand new at OfficeMax for $449 w/free shipping. I considered the price to be very reasonable for value received. I would hate to go back to the bulky full size computer. -
