Pros: Awsome looks. Lots of memory.Very light

Summary: The DV2940se is a fantastic looking laptop. The graphics on the body give an elegant look and makes the otherwise fragile and showy HP pavlion series worth the buy.
4GB RAM adds life to Vista. 320GB HDD is the highest in its class for the price.

The 14" LCD makes the whole laptop very compact and light.

The AMD processor lives up to its capabilities. The older HP pavilion laptops had a bad heating problem. And the AMDs tended to make laptop computing hazardous. This one is much cooler.

Battery lasts more than 2 hours after a full charge. (tested with movies. NOt tested with games yet). The Nvidia graphics card although with shared memory gives good performance. The S-video port comes in handy.

Bluetooth, WLAN and eveything. This is one great looking laptop and a steal for the price. $750+tax (after mail in rebates).

Cons: A Dell user would complain about the build quality.But thats how all HP laptops seem.

Depot for 749 (after rebates). I think it is a great buy for the price that I paid.

I went with the full intention of purchasing a Sony Vaio that was also on sale w/rebates but found during my comparison that this laptop had twice the ram and a better processor than the budget priced vaio (if you want to check mhy story I think its the 498 - the pink one on ODs website) so I purchased the HP. I initially almost purchased the 2840 but the 2940 had additional rebates that made both laptops have a final price of 749 so I figured it was worth the wait for the 50 bucks to have the extra performance.

A pretty decent laptop for college students or basic users.

Pros: Groovy design on casing. Great RAM size (4gb). Dual processors. Builtin webcam and microphone. 64bit system.

Cons: Lousy speakers. Cheap feeling keyboard. Headphone port is in the front. Wireless switch outside the lid. No volume buttons except on remote control. Mediocre resolution

Summary: I just got this laptop and am already having buyer's remorse. I am a tech geek and the little things are big for me. I like powerful systems and thats what I thought I was getting with this. The first thing I noticed is that even though the lid is sturdy (which is great) the keyboard feels like I might break it, especially the arrow buttons.

You get great power with the 4GB of RAM and the look of the laptop is awesome. I am pretty happy with the speed but with such a RAM hog (Vista) it won't be fast for long.

I have external speakers (you need them with these dinky high frequency deals) but the problem is that the headphone jack is in the front. Why? It was better having it on the side.

The wi-fi ethernet card seems to connect slower than my last HP laptop, but it does have bluetooth(no excuse for slower internet though).

Here's my bottom line: If you are a basic user (internet, homework, etc) then this will be an awesome laptop for you. If you are used to having high grade quality computer components, consider looking elsewhere. (Note: If they are offering a lot of rebates for a machine, there is a reason. AND- if CNET hasn't reviewed it by their editors, there is a reason.) I'm probably taking mine back and getting another model. Still an HP, but another model.
