Summary: just returned the dell axim x51v
nothing but issue with it,
hoping not to have the issue I was having with AXIM
still to new to give a full report
but so far I have not had to reset unit to turn it on
Updated
Well, week and a half into using the HX2495 and I love it
I had owed the Dell Axim x51v, I had to sent it back because of so many issue..
One of the things I noticed right way was the internet is amazingly fast the hx2495 is and how the dell was so painfully slow, Accessing email via the wireless is very fast on the HX2495 and way too slow on the Axim
I mean the internet access via wireless on the HX2495 is as fast as my desktop
I have had non of the issue I had with the dell?..
Have not had to reset the unit once, I had to reset the dell every time I needed to turn it on.. and the battery life is 150 % better than the dell I only need to charge this unit every couple of days and thats if I use it all the time, the dell would die after a few hrs?
I have to say the screen on the dell was beautiful and I wish the 2495 had the same screen. With that said the screen on the HX2495 is very good, but its not vga like the dell.
Buy this unit I have had no issues at all, in fact I am shocked.. I fully expected to have some of the same issues I had with the dell. But much to my surprise I haven?t had any issues..

Summary: After being a bit frustrated at first because of a heat and battery issue, I was about to return it when I found a fix on the HP Support forum site. Now I get great battery life and don't have to worry about it getting hot. I've gone a whole weekend without charging and that is sometimes using WiFi, which works great on this unit. I highly recommend this unit after the fixes. I have almost totally replaced my laptop with this unit, except for syncing purposes.

Summary: I bought this on a whim, intending to replace my Ipaq rx3115, but returned it 7 days later. At first, I was attracted by the new Windows OS, larger memory, and faster CPU. I also liked its looks, which appeared both more rugged and professional looking than the rx3115. I was disappointed, though, by the lackluster software features which paled in comparison to the rx3115--ya, it has the latest OS and all the basics, but nothing else to brag about. I returned it to the store while I still could because it twice ran its battery down after I turned it off. After a fresh charge, its battery went from 94% to 44% in just 2 hours even though I had turned it off and it was warm to the touch! I decided to get my money back after reading other user comments about hx2700s doing the same thing. Maybe this is a problem with HP's new Window's Mobile 5.0 handheld's, because I never had this problem with my old Ipaq.

Returned it after 5 days

Pros: Friendly for Windows users with that familiar Windows look
Cons: Locked up repeatedly in just 5 days, syncing software leaves something to be desired, tech support was possibly the worst I had ever dealt with.

Summary: After doing research before buying a pda, I felt that the HP brand was the one for me. I wanted to stay within my comfort zone, a Windows based product. There was plenty of info informing potential buyers of the locking up situation so I was aware and not suprised when I first encountered this but I really thought the pros outweighed the cons by far from the reviews that I had found. I bought this model on Thursday afternoon, loaded it, had trouble with my laptop recognizing the unit, fixed that and moved on. In the 5 days that I had the unit, actually 4 total, I had to uninstal and reinstall the syncing software on my laptop and desktop 4 times.. I was through! Stick me with a fork, I was DONE. Initially I thought that it was my laptop, so I installed the software on my desktop, no luck.. The problem was that the syncing software would not recognize the unit. On Monday morning I decided that I was going to make this work if it killed me. So I got online with HP tech support on my desktop and worked with the software on my laptop. The tech support directed me through several techniques that were posted on the HP website, which I had already tried, more then once during the weekend, then when none of those worked, I was told that I needed a cable to connect directly to the computer from the pda because the cradle was probably not working then he quickly gave me a case number and then told me to have a nice day. That was it. I was so dissapointed and angry when all was said and done. After going to several stores in town I found that not only do they care very few HP's but minimal products to go with them and no cords to be found. By the time I made it Office Depot I was fuming. The poor sales guy had no idea what he was getting into when he approached me. He explained that they no longer carry HP's because they had such bad luck with them and now they only carry Palm, which I had been avoiding.. why I'm not sure.. He was great at his customer service skills and explained in depth some of the issues that there were with HP, concerning the very problems that I had experienced with the unit itself and software and tech support. It was his lucky day, I left with a Palm Tx and couldn't be happier, the software is user friendly, no problems with set up, syncing with all of my computers, etc, etc, etc. Would I recommend this unit? No, I would not recommend any HP anything. This unit was not worth the $350 to me.

Summary: I researched handhelds for about two months before I made my purchase. I even tried various PDAs from friends and family. I liked palm, but really wanted the seamlessness of Windows Mobile for my business. My first choice would have been the hx2795, but that was too pricey. For the money, this is the best out there. So far, mine has worked flawlessly. There have been some issues, but more "operator-error" related than system realted. Definitely a safe buy!

Summary: I just upgraded (or so I thought) from the hp 2215 to the 2495. After just a couple of days I noticed the search option takes much longer and sometimes doesn't find info that I know is there (apprantly due to ROM v/s RAM, according to HP). The screen ramdomly switches from portrait to landscape. Programs seem to be "hung up" requiring soft resets. Also I've had some sync problems. Contacted HP and they really don't have an answer. Still working out the bugs in the new 5.0 operating system. I bought this unit because I thought it was faster and better. Wish I would have waited until they worked out the kinks. Hopefully software upgrades will be availabe soon, as I do love the pocket pc. HP...please fix these problems!

Summary: I've had this unit for about a week. Out of the box, it synced right up. It's wifi is fairly sensitive, and worked anywhere in the neighborhood. Some of the software on download.com and periph. didn't work with the new OS. But my primary reason for picking this config. was the mike and speaker on the front, combined with the MS operating system makes IP phone a no-brainer for travel.
Updated
It's time I revisited this unit now that I have a bit more experience. I bought this unit for 2 primary reasons:
1. It has a user replaceable battery, unlike the Palms.
2. I wanted MS operating system so I could use my Skype account.
Defects: It does get hot sometimes. And the battery can die for no apparent reason. Or so I thought. It does get thumped around, the battery shorts out and gets hot. Just remove the battery and put it back im. Then put some tape on the back to hold the battery. Check for this while you're charging or you can melt your screen.
Next is the mysterious fading batteries. I found out that the MS Media play doesn die off, even when you turn the switch off. Solution use a 3rd part prodict like Pocket TV.

Summary: This is the third pda I have owned. I started with a palm but it would lock up a lot. I switched to an IPAQ H2210 that was a great machine. It provide much better options for the alarm snooze like 30 minutes 1 hour and 2 and 4hour reminders. It also had a universal remote control. But the 2210 has no internal wi-fi. The HX2495 doesn't have a universal remote control and the snooze options are terribly limited. The unit has major MAJOR flaws with connectivity to the internet. The thumb button at the bottom is tiny unlike the button on the H2210. I certainly hoped HP invents something that works reliably in the future. These thing is very expensive and I expect it to work when I need it. The encryption software on it stinks. It takes a horrendously long time to encrypt and unencrypt anything (if it deosn't lock up, in which case I just give up on that data).
