In my opinion, I use the camera for just about everything, I record anyting that looks interesting. But, I tell you, it's a pain getting them edited, or onto a dvd with current software I had. I have to use their specific software, because my current dvd software doesn't support .mod format. If they would have recorded into another format, it would be the perfect camera. But for that downfall, I give it an eight.

I would highly recommend this camcorder to anybody seeking a hard disk drive camcorder. The CCD may not be a full mega pixel but the video quality is decent. Also it is very easy to use. Its size is also an advantage. The 34x optical zoom works really well and when you add the digital zoom you can zoom up to 68x before the video quality starts deteriorating. The digital image stabilization works good, but not as well as the optical image stabilizers in Panasonic's cameras and camcorders. You will need to buy a spare battery though because the included battery has a short life.

I needed an easy to use camcorder that was priced in the low to middle range. I bought this camcorder on sale for 325$ which is a bargain. I like the fact that this is an hard drive camcorder so you don't have to buy DVDs, tapes or miniDVs. The 680k ccd is standard definition so don't expect good pictures in the camera mode.

I am very, very pleased with this camcorder, its so small, light and easy to carry around, I can hardly believe how tiny it is! It is so easy to use, the software is great to burn dvd's of the home movies recorded and the quality is just like a real dvd movie! I love the widescreen recording format, it makes it look so professional recorded in that mode. I like that is has night shot mode and all over pleased with everything about this camera.
When I first used it and watched the video on my widescreen laptop, it looked grainy and I almost returned it, I had the camcorder hooked to my laptop, I think it might have to do with it relaying to the computer or something but once I burned a dvd of what I had recorded it was AMAZING! It looked so true to life. I shot the video in my low lite livingroom, of my children. The skintones were an exact match, and it was just like looking at my children, I was very pleased with the quality. Same thing for outdoor recording, it can't get any better than this, it really is a great camcorder!

Overall I like the features of the camera. Unfortunately it's not compatible with Macs. Even worse - the outside of the package and website says that it is Mac compatible. Only when you get to page 18 of the manual do you discover that to convert the .mod files produced by the camera to a format readable by Mac, you need to purchase extra software (cost is $50). The software (Pixela) is incredibly time consuming and cumbersome. Bottom line - stay away from this camera if you own a Mac.

Hard drive video cameras are a dime a dozen now. I wasn't looking for anything spectacular. Just something to point, shoot, transfer, and make DVD's with. Within 2 hours of opening the box I had already made (burned) my first DVD. The software (Power Cinema NE)that it comes with is very easy to understand as well.
Bottom line:
If you're a beginner looking for something easy to operate, this is your video camera.

I just got my new jvc everio mg130u camera and so far i love all of it's features except for the battery life(the battery that comes with it) and the video format that which the camcorder records in. It records in MOD. Which not to many other programs can play this format back if any. If you don't have some type of file converting program then be prepared to be stuck using the software that came with the camcorder. Other then that and having a short battery life (about a hour and a half at most). it's really a good camcorder for the price i paid for it and for what i am gonna do with it. If you don't mind using the software that came with the camcorder then get this camcorder.. it is gooooood for the price...

I received this camera as a gift. It is a great camcorder for 90% of consumers out there. It is very easy to use, the video is good and you just plug in a USB cable and transfer files. JVC saves video in a .mod format, but when you transfer the files to your computer HDD, just rename the video to .mpg and you are good to go! The battery is small and compact but can record for a long time.

I do love the camera and the quality is just fine for what I need to do with it. The only thing I don't like about it is you cannot record from the TV to the camcorder using the AV IN/OUT function.
