Great HDTV for the money

Summary: This is my first new TV in 7 years and my first flat panel TV. I chose to buy an LCD because of the very bright room that the TV will be in (it will face southward facing windows), so glare is a big problem. It has a matte screen so glare is much better than my old CRT, but there is still some glare so the shutters have to be partially closed when watching TV.

After shopping around and viewing other 46"-52" LCD's I found this model provided great performance and value. I sat and watched hours of HD programs at the stores and this unit provided rich color, sharp details, and excellent contrasts that rivaled the much more expensive Samsungs and Sony XBRs. It does not have the more expensive feature like 120Hz refresh rates or high contrast ratios, but to be honest, I could not see any difference with the more expensive models (except for the Samsung with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio).
When I hooked this TV to a Sony Blue-Ray player I was blown away by clarity of the picture. Even regular DVDs upscaled to 1080i looked exceptional. The sound is good from the speakers and the chasis looks nice. The connectivity is plentiful and I liked being able to hook up my Blue-Ray and DVD recorder to the TV's HDMIs and then patch the sound output via digital coaxial to my receiver.

The drawbacks include: slight inconsistent backlight uniformity at the upper corners which is only seen on a very dark scene in a darkened room, and decreased contrast and color saturation with increased viewing angles. The only other thing that may be an issue is that when the Panasonic DMP-BD30K Blue-Ray player was hooked up via HDMI there was static and white flickers that made it unbearable; I researched this problem through c/net and this is a common problem with the DMP-BD30K hooked up to Samsung LCD TVs (maybe LG and Samsung uses the same picture engines making this problem common to both Korean brands). This is the reason I settled with the Sony BDP-S300 Blue-Ray player.
