I took a Toshiba out of line and installed the Motorola Surfboard. I noticed right away that it was faster! If you use cable this is the modem for you. The standby button is nice to shut down the internet when you are not using the computer. The case to the modem feels a little cheap but is sturdy and seems to be just fine. I would like to see a little better case. However, Motorola has a winner in this one!

I had a Best Data Cable Modem and was getting 'dialup' speeds. Put the Motorola Cable Modem on and WOW!!! I am getting speeds HIGHER/FASTER than my cable provider says I should get. Great!!! Cable company told me old wiring was bad and that they would not replace it. IT WAS THE MODEM! Hooray!!! Get THIS one!!!

I purchased this after my RCA modem failed. Right away, I noticed that the modem delivered a speed increase. using bandwidth testers, I was able to get about 500 kbps faster scores than with the RCA modem, and it feels a lot more responsive.
With my RCA modem, I would end up having to restart it about once a month, where I needed to let it cool down and then reattach everything. I have never needed to do this with the Surfboard, it has worked for three months without problems.
Setup was very simple, anyone should be able to get the modem working. If you need a cable modem, I would suggest this modem above all others.

I don't frequently leave good feedback (see feedback for the D-Link DCM-202 cable modem). My Linksys modem died, the newest D-Link modem was defective, this Motorola modem is a winner. Plugged it in, registered the MAC address with my internet provider, had my router spoof the computer MAC address, and never looked back. Has been up 100% and tests fast. Can't think of anything bad to say about this one...

I've had two of these modems in the last 9 months. Both of them have failed. Both became intermittent, the worst kind of problem to debug.
With the most recent one, it took me over three hours to deal with the problem because Motorola customer support kept pointing the finger at the ISP. Two customer support reps insisted that the modem was okay, and didn't seem to understand the nature of an intermittent problem, namely that the fact it works on some test doesn't prove it works.
Only when I forced the second rep to so some additional testing, and after the second rep had already tried to dismiss the problem, did the rep admit that the modem was failiing.
The return policy is not responsive to the needs of a customer that needs internet access to handle daily work.
I finally sent the modem to Motorola for replacement. But I bought a LinkSys modem to replace it immediately. I will sell the Motorala replacement at a discounted price on EBay or Craigslist, and never buy another product from Motorola. Demonstrated bad support always slams the door for me.
By the way, when shopping for a replacement I found that the stores didn't stock any Motorola cable modem, including the store where I had bought the second one in April.

I haven't ever had a problem with this modem. It's always working and I get a slightly better connection than I did with my previous Linksys WCG-200. When I need to turn it on and off, it's a pain having to unplug it instead of simply being able to hit a switch. Not a big problem though. Also, the thing isn't that sturdy but this can easily be ignored since your not exactly going to be coming in contact with it all the time. Great reliable product from Motorola.
