Summary: I purchased this for my own Christmas present from my wife. it is awesome in many ways, but it crashed on me twice while on I-10 near Jacksonville, FL both going and coming back at the same location It also will not keep time and date settings. I have to reset them every time i use it. yesterday i decided to test it by by-passing several exits and going a route it knew well. for some reason it wanted to take me many miles out of the way and into midtown Atlanta when i was only about 2 miles from my destination in the suburbs of Atlanta. if customer support would call me, i would not be writing anything negative about the device. It has been 5 days/3 weekdays since i first contacted them.

after 5 days Nextar Cust. Service (Jay) called me. He was really helpful. He could not explain the crash of the system on I-10 but he answered many other questions and seemed to care about my concerns. I went from pleased with the product to extremely pleased and much more satisfied with their customer service. Jay made that much difference. All i wanted was someone to help me. He did. I kept telling him how awesome the prodict is. He said it's so new he hasn't even seen on yet, but he knew what my problems were and satisfied me. JUST AN AWESOME ITEM. BUY IT. YOU WON'T REGET IT. I want to change my rating from 7 to 9 but don't seem to have that option in the update field.

It crashed 3 more times. I have returned it for replacement after numerous attempts to speak with a human in customer service. They e-mailed a name and phone number, but it only got me another non human phone number to call. I like the product so much I don't want a refund, but this inability to get hold of a human is madening. Wish me luck. U might think twice before buying one until they allow direct contact with a human in customer service.

Summary: This is my first GPS device ever. I just bought the Nextar Q3 today and so far it has been a great product and 100% reliable! When I turned it on, it found my location very quickly and finds POIs just as quickly. The directions were perfect and the ability to re-calculate your route as you make driving changes is outstanding. It has a nice array of options for your route such as whether or not to use toll roads, ferries, carpool routes and to reduce the amount of turns. Also, you can choose to use "Quickest", "Shortest", "Major", or "Local" roads. You can also choose what types of roads you do not want to include in your route.
The Nextar Q3 has a built in MP3 player which plays MP3's and WMA formats. It has an SD expansion slot available, so you will need to buy an SD card for you to store your music files.
The external controls on the unit are volume, headphone jack, and DC 5V input jack, SD card port and USB port, remote LED, Menu button, Power button, speaker and charge indicator.
The 3.5 inch display is very nice displaying in 65k colors. I have only used it on a cloudy day so I cannot comment on the screen in direct sunlight. While displaying your route, it also shows distance to your next segment, time to next segment, miles to destination and your driving speed. The information I received was very accurate and even my driving speed was within a couple mph.
Battery life is quoted at 3 hours on a full charge.
Overall, I think its a great product. The screen is great and directions are clear. If you purchase this device I hope you like it as much as I do.

It has been 5 months and I wanted to add to my post that I still really like this product but I must agree with other posts that the company's customer support is VERY lacking. It's actually bad enough for me to drop my rating of the product by a couple points. If Nextar would improve their customer support, this would be a must buy for the price.

Summary: Picked up this unit last year on a holiday trip with the family from Houston to Columbus, OH. First time I used it I broke the car power plug. My father-in-law bought the same unit and has broken one plug, had it replaced, and broken the replacement. This is a serious design flaw. He eventually found a Belkin car adapter for a satellite radio to replace the crappy Nextar cable. I'm currently using a rubber band and crossed fingers to hold the broken adapter together.
I have had the unit lock up occasionally and had to re-set. It has mysteriously dumped the favorites list on me once. Father-in-law's favorites feature doesn't work at all. He can not get them to save in the unit. It was a bargain unit that works great most of the time but is problematic enough not to want to use it for anything critical. Routes seem to be pretty good and it recalculates on the fly pretty quickly. The display has excellent readability. I'm not in the market for anything better now but will likely go with a better brand when this unit is done.

Summary: This was a Christmas gift in 2006, as time has passed it has been taking longer and longer for me to get a signal. The last time I used it took nearly 8 minutes before I got a signal so that I can begin my journey. The mounting device needs periodic adjusting of the screw, and recently it has been stating that it is having internal errors. To top it off the car charger broke when I pulled it out of the socket. I called the company and they said that they would send me a new one but that it will take awhile because they were on back order because this is happening a lot. Started off really good for the first 6 months after that it has been all down hill.

I called customer service and their best help was to tell me to go and get it exchanged at the store.
This is my second Q3 and it crashed on me just like the first one.

Summary: I travel for work and use this a lot. For the most part it is very accurate and very easy to use. There are very minor bugs that can be worked around such as when I power up sometimes it takes a few minutes to retrieve the current location and when the battery dies, some settings like the volume goes back to the default setting. The voice navigator is very clear and the screen is very good. One design flaw is that the car charger cable is the coiled style and I've rented cars where the charger is very low and best mounting position is on the top of the dashboard. The cord doesn't extend very easily. But overall for the ease of use and quality its a great deal.

Summary: The Q3 was my first GPS a few weeks ago. On a trip from Indiana to Virginia it performed flawlessly to within literally a few miles of my destination, then the voice prompts went south. Instead of the voice, it emitted a "clucking sound" in place of the TTS.
The video remained functional and after I had turned a few exits early by mistake, I was finally able to locate the interstate access again by the video and get back on my route. It took a hard reset to get it going again that night.
Twice in as many days that followed I got the error message that is familiar to many Windows users: "Navwhatever.exe has encountered an error and must close. Sorry for the..." I guess Macvision is closer to Microsoft than I thought.
Upon further research, I found a review by another fellow with a similar problem that mentioned a Nextar tech as saying had no idea what might cause them to crash. Maybe with a firmware update, it could have been saved, but I gave it up for another more expensive brand.
