Nikon has unveiled a pack of pocketable point-and-shoot cameras for style-minded users. These new Nikon Coolpix cameras all feature ultracompact, all-metal bodies, and range from a sub-$200 budget shooter to a feature-laden $300 model.

The Coolpix S210 presents the least expensive of the Coolpix S-cameras. It fits an 8-megapixel sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens into a 3/4-inch-thick aluminum body, making it very pocket-friendly. Its 2.5-inch screen is smaller than the L18's, but it makes up for its size with a high resolution and a 170-degree viewing angle. The Coolpix S210 also ships in March with a retail price of $180, and will be available in black, bronze, plum, and blue versions.

Optical image stabilization bumps the Coolpix S520 past the $200 point, making it the most expensive of Nikon's new 8-megapixel point-and-shoots. It keeps the same 2.5-inch LCD and 3x optical zoom magnification as the S210, but the addition of Nikon's Optical Vibration Reduction feature gives it an edge in low-light and high-speed shots. The Coolpix S520 ships in February, with a suggested price of $230.

Also retailing for about $230, the Coolpix S550 forgoes optical stabilization for a larger lens and higher resolution. The S550 features a 10-megapixel sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens, though it only offers Nikon's Electronic Vibration Reduction image stabilization. Instead of shifting the lens itself, electronic image stabilization boosts ISO sensitivity and quickens the shutter to reduce shake. This camera also incorporates Nikon's Smile Mode and Blink Warning, features that can automatically take photos when subjects smile, and warn users when subjects blink. The Coolpix S550 ships in February, and will be available in blue, red, and black.

The Coolpix S600 presents most advanced member of Nikon's latest wave of Coolpix S-series cameras. The 10-megapixel S600 features a 28 to 112mm-equivalent 4x optical zoom that incorporates optical image stabilization to reduce shake. It sports a 2.7-inch LCD screen, and can reach up to ISO 3,200 sensitivity, the highest of any of the new Coolpix S-cameras. Nikon claims that the S600 has the fastest start-up time of any camera in its class at 0.7 second, though we won't know until we test it for ourselves. The slate black Nikon Coolpix S600 ships in March, with a suggested retail price of $300.

It's the first time I used a nikon and honestly I'm very very disappointed. Pictures are very grainy. I've used other cameras before with lower resolution and those cameras take better and sharper picture than this.

I suggest if you come accros this camera , don't even think about buying one. Don't waste you're money with this piece.

Priced right, some shortcomings.

I just point in the general direction of the subject and click...and hope I got a picture. A true example of flying blind. A digital camera MUST have a viewfinder I wish it had a RAW or .tif output. Only has .jpg. With the optional 2 GB memory card, it can record nearly 800 pictures at 10 Megapixels! The software is extraordinarily powerful. If you plan to take lots of pictures on a shoot, it would be wise to carry an extra charged battery. I bought it via Amazon.com for $200.

Every Feature you would need, And some you don't!

Summary: I bought this camera for the main reason that it had a time-lapse function. Nikon has the best function of all of the cameras that I have seen. This camera lets you select between 30s, 60s, 5m, 10m, 30m and 1 hr time intervals. It even lets you do this in two different modes, one will make the timelapse into a video (640x480) in the camera, the other mode will just take the pictures in what ever resolution you set it too.

After using it for what I intended it for, I came to find out that this camera is a great, well, Camera! Who would have thought? I am a DSLR person and usual scoff at people who use point and shoot cameras for artisitc shoots, but this one will keep up with my DSLR pretty well so long as you keep the ISO low. Anything above 200 is good only for fun pictures at parties and of people, not for artistic photographic purposes. This however is acceptable, i mean it is a point and shoot.

Having only a DSLR camera, it is nice to have something that takes videos, the s550 takes great videos. It does not overcompress them like some cameras and it has a high frame rate even in low light situations.

The zoom is more than attaquite for what I use the camera for, the digital zoom is even feasable if you are using less than 10MP resolution.

Like I stated above, I wish you could set the parameters for a shoot, like shutter speed and aperature. Yet again this is expected and VERY few ultracompact cameras have this option.

Overall this camera is a very amazing piece of work that Nikon put out, very sturdy, nothing flimsy on it. Not to mention its sexy looking!
