Product brief
Intro: The Philips 42PFL5332D is a 42-inch, liquid crystal display television.Compared to other liquid crystal display TVs on the market, it is midpriced at around $1,115.This product is an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.
Noteworthy Features: Has a 42-inch screen size.This is larger than the average TV on the market today, but is to be expected for a TV of this price.This unit can display images that are sharper and more realistic than analog television when connected to a high definition signal.The 3:2 pulldown feature of this set reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.
Weaker Features: Has only a rear connector location.
Suitability: A liquid crystal display TV, suited for home entertainment as well as work place applications.Also, a wide aspect TV such as this one is well suited for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.
Value: Overall, this TV has good features for the money.In terms of viewable size, liquid crystal display TVs with comparable viewable size have an average cost of around $1,535.
Suggestions: (1) For assistance in shopping for a new HDTV, read CNET editors' Ultimate HDTV Buying Guide.(2) If donating or repurposing your old TV is not a viable option, CNET encourages households to recycle their electronics.Please explore the following website to find a recycling center in your area Electronics Take Back Coalition.
Receiving HDTV broadcast: The three common methods to receive HDTV broadcasts are via satellite-TV set-top box, cable system set-top box, and over-the-air reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station.
True HDTV: True HDTV programming is broadcast in three resolutions: 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
Tuner options: An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital TV set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

Summary: I bought this TV last week from Best Buy for 900 bucks! Couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't. I have an Xbox 360 hooked up and am amazed at how well Gears of War looks on it! I also downloaded 300 in HD from there and that looks amazing as well. Regular TV broadcasts are average but HD looks amazing; I would definitely recommend calling up your cable/satellite provider and upgrading to HD immediately. I am kind of bummed I have to dish out a few hundred more bucks to upgrade my surround sound because the TV only has a digital coaxial output where my surround sound has digital optical. I do need an upgrade though }

So far I am very satisfied with this purchase, 900 bucks for a Philips 42" LCD I couldn't go wrong.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

at a great price I might add (get it while supplies last). It sat around a week in my living room before getting hooked up. After following the directions for hooking up properly it was turned on. A big square came on saying "DVI & HDMI OUTPUTS ARE BLOCKED. PRESS EXIT TO CANCEL". Needless to say it bugged me out. I called the cable company and they said that some older flat TV's have this problem and it simply was not cable was responsible for. After realizing that I might have to return the product back I started playing with the menu. And waaaalllaaaahhhh!! I selected the HDMI 1 option and the difference was night and day. Although I understand my connections well, I hadn't gone the extra step to tie in the HDMI cable with the HDMI port. My mistake but someone else may make the same mistake and not realize it. The picture is spectacular, radiant, perfect. I did notice a little too much contrast but that is adjustable. Watching a baseball game and the local news has just been elevated to being right there in the stadium or the studio. I chose Philips because of its longevity in the TV business as well as owning another standard TV by them. Both products are great. I am floored and bedazzled by my new LCD. Just love it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: A very good TV for the money you pay. I paid $1150 bucks for this TV in amazon.com and the TV worked absoutely great. The TV has a great picture and Sound system. Suddently a month ago there was cracking sound which came from the back of the unit and it finally came to a point where Pbilips cant fix the TV and they replaced my NEW UNIT with a REFURB UNIT. You buy a brand new product and PHILIPS replaces you with a REFURB unit if they cant fix it. How easily a customer is cheated, the same TV on refurb market comes for $750 and I lost $400 in buying this TV.
A Very horrible experience and Very very poor customer service.
Dont buy PHILIPS, they dont understand the customer. -
