Pros: Vivid colors, deep blacks, overall video performance. Outstanding price.

Summary: Three weeks ago I purchased an LN40A550 but a week ago I noticed that the LN40A450 had gone on clearance at BestBuy for $899 on top of that some BestBuys are doing a Power Price promotion (30% off) which brought it to $629. Once home I placed this set next to the 550 and the similarity viewing HD content is uncanny. I know the 450 is only 720p but at almost half the cost, I'm keeping it and returning the 550.

Summary: Very satisfied with this purchase. Paid $949, and it was well worth it. Initially thought I would be unhappy with 720, but not at all. Picture is great, lots of connections. Built in audio is poor (at least I can't get it to sound good), but I am running it through a surround sound system, so it really doesn't matter.

Summary: This is the best LCD on the market under $1,000. It has the 40" size and the quality of Samsung. 1080 sources look great on this 720p set. HDTV looks great over-air. SD looks good, too. You won't go wrong with this purchase.

Description: The Samsung's 720p Series 4 was designed with many of the same high-end components used across all of Samsung's LCD line-up. The Series 4 piano-black bezel elegantly frames a Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) LCD panel, which delivers superior picture quality and 178-degree viewing angles from all four axes. Down-firing stereo speakers are completely hidden in specially designed chambers at the bottom of the display to increase audio quality. The LCD Series 4 is also ideal for those who use their televisions with digital devices, such as HD camcorders and portable media players. It offers easy connectivity through side-mounted ports including one HDMI, and specially designed "hot keys" on the remote control that allow easy access to connected devices.
