Intro:
The Samsung Syncmaster LCD Monitor is a 24 in, flat panel computer monitor.Compared to other flat panel monitors on the market, it is midpriced at around $460.This unit features a 1920x1200 native resolution.Weighs 18.5 lbs.
Noteworthy Features:
Has 1920x1200 resolution, which is higher than some similarly priced monitors.By way of comparison, the typical cost of a product with this high a resolution is $955.Also, this monitor has 16:10 aspect ratio, which is somewhat more favorable than some similarly priced monitors. Its wide viewing angle (160 degrees) is useful whenever the screen is being viewed by more than one person at the same time.Accepts DVI input, which allows for greater signal clarity than traditional VGA.
Weaker Features:
None noted, given available product data.
Suitability:
Built for those want a big display in a thin form factor. The 5 ms response time of this screen makes it ideal for fast-moving games and for watching movies.
Value:
Overall, this monitor has great features for the money. For example, when it comes to viewable screen size, the average price of flat panel monitors with comparable viewable size is quite a bit more -- in fact around $885.
Suggestions:
(1) Before purchasing an LCD monitor, consider visiting your local store for a live demo to ensure that its overall image quality, color, and sharpness meets your expectation.(2) Since this monitor is DVI-capable, you might want a DVI-enabled graphics card in your PC to connect with it -- this will pass the digital video signal directly without converting it to analog, making for better performance.
10 out of 10 - Perfect Beautiful Picture with no frills for a great price

I own a Dell 2405FPW which has the Best LCD Picture quality I have ever seen even better than it's predecessor the 2407WFP. I bought 4 of these Samsung 245BW because I wanted at least one with no dead pixels to work in dual mode with my 2405FPW, but guess what? Not one of them had a single dead pixel!!
The picture quality is nearly exactly the same as my beautiful Dell 2405FPW LCD, which makes sense because the Dell 2405FPW does have a Samsung Panel. Well after spending a few hours adjusting settings with both 245BW & 2405FPW side by side, I decided to run 2 of these 245BW dual instead & finally sell my beautiful Dell 2405FPW. I really don't need or want all that additional bull 2405FPW offers (i.e. memory card readers, picture in picture etc. BLAH!!! Who cares? (Although USB ports were nice on 2405FPW, USB hubs are so cheap these days (practically free) having a built in USB hub is not a priority for me. Picture Quality is what really counts.
245BW are Beautiful no frills 24" WUXGA Monitors at a great low price with quality where it counts.(Only paid $479 free shipping at Dell) Plus I got $14.37 cash rebate each too!
Highly Recommended. Black is DEEP BLACK White is bright white.
Like the 2405FPW, these are WAY TOO BRIGHT out of the box, you will need to spend at least a few hrs adjusting color, brightness, gamaa etc.
You will not be disappointed. Buy it!
Another thing, they only weigh 18.7lbs! Almost a full 4lbs lighter than my 2405FPW at 22.7lbs!
Dell 2405fpw is the best LCD I have ever sampled, so considering I am actually going to replace it now with 2 of these, that should tell you something about these. Their picture quality is identical.

8 out of 10 - Excellent Size Matters! And this 24" whopper tops the list.

You've GOT to see this monitor to believe it! But don't be mislead by the display demos set up in many high-volume retail stores. With a maximum pixel clock of 154 MHz, the picture quality will almost certainly be limited by their video distribution system instead of the monitor itself. If you have a laptop, take it to someplace that carries this monitor, and ask to hook it up directly. The sales representatives at Circuit City were most accommodating in helping me connect my laptop directly to several monitors to do an "apples-to-apples" comparison. If you do this, be sure to crank up your screen resolution to 1920 by 1200 to see what this monitor can really do!
Image quality is the best feature of this monitor! Text is displayed with crisp, sharp edges without the color artifacts you often see on "electron beam" monitors. Photo images are equally sharp and incredibly vibrant! It is as close to perfect as I have seen. After reading other reviews, I was concerned about the intensity variation as a function of up and down viewing angle. At extreme angles, I can see it, but not to the extent I was expecting after reading the reviews. When seated in front of the monitor, the intensity is very consistent and uniform. Also, I was concerned about the interference from my laptop power supply, which is discussed in other reviews. I have a Dell D420 laptop. I moved its power supply all around my monitor and even wrapped the video cable around the power supply, but I can't see any problems.
The monitor is a little pricey, which is why I didn't give it a higher score. I paid $450, which is more than I wanted to spend. Don't get me wrong...this is a quality monitor, and I feel I got what I paid for. But I wouldn't call it "a steal". Also, the User's Manual is in pdf format, which is clearly translated from another language.
In summary, I am extremely pleased with the Samsung 245BW! I bought it mainly to do CAD schematic capture and layout, for which a large 24" monitor is perfectly suited. However, after seeing how nice photos look on this monitor, I suspect I will be spending many hours enjoying slideshows of my favorite photo shoots!

Very nice monitor, looks great on my desk. The picture quality is exceptional considering the price, with excellent color reproduction. The stand is stable, the monitor does not move around if the desk gets bumped. The monitor is pretty deep (about 4"), but I haven't had that detract from all of the pluses I've found with it. Overall, it's a great monitor for the low price.

4 out of 10 - Mediocre You get what you pay for.

I suppose this monitor is okay for the casual user, but not for CAD or Photoshop users. The viewing angle is only 160 degrees and it should be at least 178 - this is critical for an LCD monitor. This is my eight LCD monitor and it is the worst one by far. It takes this monitor 1-hour to warm up to full brightness, contrast, & color....that's something they don't list in the specifications. I returned this monitor to Costco for a full refund and bought an HP. In all fairness to Samsung, they make a better 24" monitor. The 244T has a 178 degree viewing angle, but it's also a more expensive monitor. Like I said, "You get what you pay for".

I have had Dell Monitors for the last few years, but I wanted to upgrade to a 24". Dell's are pricey at that size so I moved on to Samsung. I usually by gear at NewEgg but I wanted to see what I was buying first.
Went to Circuit City and was blown away by the quality and sharpness of the screen. (An earlier review suggested taking your laptop into the store to see a true image and I completely agree. Salesperson at CC was great about it).
Have this setup at home on as a Dual Monitor setup with my Dell 2200WFP as secondary. The picture is way to bright out of the box, but after a couple of hours of tinkering, it looks amazing.
This is my primary game machine (Q6600 Quad core; Nvidia 8800GT) and the resolution is amazing. No ghosting at all in Crysis, World in Conflict or COD4.
Viewing angles are not as good as some more expensive monitors, but if you aren't using this for group presentations or watching video with a group it is fine.
