- Bottom Line:
- Intuit QuickBooks Premier 2009 keeps the program's well-designed, intuitive interface, while adding a few new features. It's a worthy upgrade for people serious about online banking, and it remains the best accounting program for small business owners. However, Intuit should be more generous with customer support, particularly for setup issues.

QuickBooks Pro 2009 is not compatible with 2008
by FMvanderVliet on January 16, 2009
Pros: Not too bad to enter your accounting data
Cons: 2009 not compatible with 2008, so if you buy it, your accountant has to upgrade as well.
Summary: Do not buy the 2009 version if your accountant is using the 2008 version. You will not be able to transfer your files.

INEPT ONLINE BANKING
by Guepard on April 14, 2009
Pros: NONE - Intuit took a working program (QuickBooks 2006) and took away all the functions of the online banking!
Cons: The Online Banking is the most INEPT part of the program. Intuit is on R7 which means they have failed eight time to get it corrected. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM IF YOU USE ONLINE BANKING!!!!

Intuit continues its unblemished record of mediocrity
by gperk_98 on March 11, 2009
Pros: The software is able to keep an accurate running balance for a checking account.
Cons: I have used Quickbooks since 2004 for small business and Non-profit accounting. It has been continually frustrating. The Inuit customer service seems more interested in selling more services than assisting the customer.
Summary: Having upgraded from QB2004 to 2007 and now to 2009, it is remarkable how the software seems to grow more restrictive. You can no longer cut a paycheck without subscribing ...
Summary: Having upgraded from QB2004 to 2007 and now to 2009, it is remarkable how the software seems to grow more restrictive. You can no longer cut a paycheck without subscribing to a payroll service. The upgrade process is cumbersome and needs to be carefully debugged of accounting errors. Trying to port to QB for the MAC 2009 is hopeless. You need to monitor your entry dates for deposits and checks carefully since the program randomly changes the date during the process.

All Quickbooks products SHUT DOWN after 3 years. AVOID
by kbum on June 27, 2012
Pros: Not too hard to use but you have to redo everything when your subscription is up.
Cons: - MUST renew every few years
- must redo all your templates
- on version R14 (they couldn't get it right the first 13 times)
- Each download of R#, it'll wipe out your data since last R# revision (back up!)
- service and support sucks!Summary: As you have heard with all users of all versions. They make your software SHUT DOWN if you do not renew every few (2-3 years). There are better programs! There ...

RUN DO NOT WALK AWAY FROM THIS DISASTER!!!!
by TotallyTicked on July 15, 2010
Pros: Can't think of anything off hand!
Cons: This has got to be the worst upgrade I've used. When I balance the checkbook I find that QB has lost some of my checks (payroll) how did that happen???? Me and a million want to know.
Summary: LIKE I SAID, RUN RUN RUN DON'T WALK AWAY AND NO ONE WILL GET BURNED.I am looking for another program and it will NOT be anything that is ...

A huge hassle re-doing templates every year
by billreno48 on December 4, 2009
Pros: As far as accounting software goes, it works but has limitations for consulting businesses
Cons: Why would QuickBooks force their customers to re-do their templates every year. I would like to hear the explanation from Intuit as to why they put their customers through this needless hassle.
Summary: Hey, new QuickBooks users, have they got a surprise for you! You know all those templates you painstakingly created in QuickBooks? Turns out they just DISAPPEAR when you install the ...
Summary: Hey, new QuickBooks users, have they got a surprise for you! You know all those templates you painstakingly created in QuickBooks? Turns out they just DISAPPEAR when you install the mandatory next year's version. So you have to do them all over again, every year. Now, QuickBooks will sell you a phone support service so that somebody can walk you through the process of recreating your templates. They would not, however, allow you to import your existing templates into the new year's version. So be warned. QuickBooks either does not know how to have your templates imported or they don't care about your hassle or they just see it as a way to squeeze a few extra shekels out of their customers.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible

Originally we were recommended QuickBooks by an accountant - that was back in 2001. We run a small business - but aren't accoutin experts and were looking for a simple and intuitive system to record our finances and calculate our VAT.
At the time there weren't many alternatives - so we stuck with the recommendation and bought QuickBooks Pro.
The learning curve was extrememly steep with QuickBooks. The pain continued on a daily basis with many counterintuitive functions and poorly translated terms [from 'American']. After 12 months we felt reasonably confident- but still had to call our accountant for support far too often.
We then upgraded to a more recent version - and this was so bad - we sent it back for refund. Clunky, buggy and poorly scripted. It makes a vital business task a truly frustrating experience.
Each year a new version of QuickBooks emerges and things just get worse.
Then there is customer support - or should I say customer sales! If your product is more than 12 months old - the stock advice when you ring for help [and believe me - you will!] - is to say that you will need to upgrade.
Buying QuickBooks is really like buying a one year licence. Once you are locked-in then you may find a need to buy the latest version on an annual basis.
Today there are so many good aletrnatives - I emplore you to look elsewhere.
This product truly deserves to be driven from the market and the company out of business.
