The good: Quicken 2007 Premier has the ability to connect to more than 4,300 financial institutions; a simplified interface; one-step account updates; a calendar that spells out your daily financial status; pop-up insights of transaction details; an affordable online backup; storage for images of receipts and invoices; scanner support; local encryptionof your data; Windows and Mac versions; and free, online-help chat.
The bad: Despite support for thousands of banks and creditors, Quicken 2007 couldn't import data from a particular checking account from a national bank. Also, its phone support is pricey.
The bottom line: Intuit Quicken 2007 Premier offers a thorough overhaul of its interface, as well as useful new features and conveniences that other financial software products can't match.

Looks slick. Except for the major errors updating my old data files

Summary: I received several emails and a CD in the mail from Intuit INSISTING I had no choice but to upgrade from my old 2004 version, which has been running faithfully and reliably for years. Quicken informed me they would no longer support this working product and I would no longer be able to update my investments online.
So I went for it. Installation was reasonably painless, until I looked at the data Quicken 2007 read from my earlier version. I now have a negative 46 thousand dollar balance in my checking account, and the projections in the software show hundreds of trillion dollar amounts.
On contacting quicken support, they were unable to solve the problem. And I contacted well over 5 different "support" persons. My data is gone (thankfully, I have the original 2004 data files and can continue to use that, but Quicken will not allow me to update balances.)
What was their solution? Sending my data files (hey, this is private information) over the internet so some hack can look through it and "repair" my files. Not to mention I would have to RE-ENTER 14 years of data when they send it back to me. Oh, yeah, they refunded my money, but still have no solution. Not to mention the "support" personel persons who hung up on me when they couldn't answer a question.
This brings to mind DAC software in the early '90's who came up with an URGENT upgrade that destroyed every user's data. They couldn't fix the problem and the company went belly up.
So long, Intuit. Incidentally, I also use Quickbooks for my business, and I purchased the payroll service from them. The amounts the payroll instructs to send to the taxman differs from the amount they report on the tax return.
I'd stay away from Intuit products until when (or IF) they get their act together.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Printer problems

Quicken Support (via India) was clueless. I finally got reports to print on an inkjet and checks on a laser printer. However, the last Quicken update made everything condense into 1" x 1" size or in some cases, reversed mirror image.
Unfortunately, I can not go back to Quicken 2006 because file is not compatible. Recommend you do not upgrade to Quicken 2007 until Intuit fixes the problem.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Installed Quicken 2007 Home and Business and it takes quite a while to setup all your accounts with passwords to all your institutions. However, Quicken often cannot connect to your financial institutions giving this error message: "Quicken Server Outage, Quicken is aware of this issue. Your financial institution cannot resolve this issue." After contacting Customer Support they recommended doing a new install under Safe Mode. I was told that Support has been aware of this issue and has been working to fix it. It has been 3 months now. I would not recommend this product unless you want to be extremely frustrated.

Why use something that is proprietary? Memories of IBM.
by masi_man on December 25, 2006
Pros: Works well if you do your finances the way Quicken wants you to
Cons: Can't modify the import files to the application. Not all institutions want to pay a "fee" to Quicken so they can supply the barely proprietary format to customers.

Summary: A good program that the management team just wants to shoot itself in the foot over. They have a we have the best product out there mentality and can do to the marketplace what we please. I'll spend my money on an application that I have a little more control over, especially one that deals with my finances. Change the business model and I'll be one of the first to come back Quicken.

Summary: It's a slim and quick program (compared to any MS Money). Lacks the excellent forecasting of Money, has some quircks with downloads. Overall the product just works and it does not have any of the myteries of Money. Has not crashed on me yet! If Intuit can just create a good cash flow forecast, then they'll kill off Money. Althought after Money 2007, it seems that Redmond will kill it without any help.

I'm a Product Manager, for software and wouldn't allow something like this to get into my clients hands.
For software thats been around sooooo long, I can't understand they can't get very basic features right.
Downloading your transactions takes about 15 mouse clicks. OK, so it saves all my passwords, but then why do I need to enter another password?? Give me the option to turn that off.
I finally download my transactions then and need to confirm I want them? Of course I do.
Entering transactions takes far too many steps.
Exiting the program, it asks me to back up. Just back up automatically.
After downloading transactions it hung many times.
The whole idea is to have software work for me and not for me to work for the software. I need a product to make my life easier, not harder.
Its a continuous mess of pop ups and extra work that needs to be done.
I'm uninstalling for the last time and won't be back. Intuit - you did a very poor job.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: It is beyond comprehension why Intuit would degrade a good product by rendering useless the import/export function. What they have done is eliminate the Import function in QIF files format without offering an alternative to export data in QFX file format ( They support QFX for import but there is no way to export QFX files) . The result is that archived accounts are scattered in multiple files without any possibility of ever reconciling them into a single file. I have wasted many hours trying to find a solution but to no avail. What a way to kill a rather functional program.

This 10 year user of Quicken will be switching to Money.
by Dutchman5898 on May 30, 2007
Pros: Excellent User Interface
Cons: Inconsistent reports and stock price quote updates that are not available when I am.

1. Quicken 2007 continues to have inconsistencies in my budget and investment reports, some of which go back for a couple of years.
2. In November of 2006, I began to experience issues with updating stock and mutual fund prices. Intuit’s quote server does not appropriately respond to the inquires from my software between mid afternoon and late evening, Pacific time, during a weekday. In March 2007, I was told that the quotes server worked and that the issue I am experiencing was temporary. It is now May 30, 2007 and I consistently experience the same issue, just about every weekday since February 2007. The most recent communications with Quicken support says basically that this is a known problem and that when it is fixed; there will be a posting on their web page.
3. For the last three (3) years, there has been the same issue with how Intuit’s TurboTax software calculates my state income taxes. Each year I have discussed with TurboTax’s support. Every year they work with me to do a work around and say that they will request a change to the software. It has gotten better. But in the end, the same issue causes my state taxes not to be correct if I follow their published instructions.
I am both a power user and a power investor. When I first started using Intuit’s products and services I found them to be extremely helpful, and of a very high quality. Yes, there were issues. But; there was always a quick work around. For the last year or so, it appears to me that Intuit has lost the will, if not the ability, to create and maintain quality products and services.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
