The good: The Quicken 2010 product family gets a fresh home page that makes setting up a personal home finance operation easy. Quicken now also automatically categorizes expenses.
The bad: Many second-tier tools are clunky and text-heavy; Quicken junks up the desktop with extra shortcuts.
The bottom line: Quicken 2010 is a solid finance package, especially for novices, but offers little that's substantively new.

Have used this product for over ten years,
by bear32 on October 20, 2009
Pros: Its not the best but it does do its job that its put out to be, there is faults in any system, an this one does it better than most.
Cons: Some times it does things that can't be explained an a call to the company helps, as they are very good at this, they help you alot.
Summary: It used to show the individual stocks but now it lumps them all together, which I don't like but have no say in, but over all its not a ...
Summary: It used to show the individual stocks but now it lumps them all together, which I don't like but have no say in, but over all its not a bad thing. Some times in making a Quicken, its not good to mess with what has been an some improvements don't work out as they had expected them to.

This is the worst software product I have ever seen.
by photiadis on December 7, 2010
Pros: Nothing to enter.
Cons: It automatically enters incorrect online data based on interactions with your bank account, which is then impossible to delete. I have interacted with quicken customer service for several hours trying to fix this and I am a software professional.
Summary: It is truly unbelievable how bad this product is, and I sincerely hope no one makes the same mistake as me and buys it.

Absolutely horrible software.
by Conusmer37 on November 7, 2010
Pros: Tracks your transactions and spending, but that's only after hours of work struggling to get it to do it correctly and fixing the errors it creates in account transactions.
Cons: It's been nothing but a waste of time, spending hours trying to get accounts and tools setup correctly, and then hours trying to fix all the discrepancies in my transactions, and between accounts, every time I synchronize with my bank.

Summary: I have used a few different versions of Microsoft Money over the past, and since they stopped developing and supporting it I've used Excel spreadsheets to manage all my transactions and financial calculations myself (budget, spending, investments, forecasting, etc.). I bought Quicken 2010 because Quicken always sounded like popular financial software to use and I thought it would save me a lot of time that I was spending in Excel importing my transactions and managing the formulas, etc.. I am being completely honest when I say that Quicken 2010 was one of the biggest disappointments I've have ever had with a new piece of software, and it was, by far, easier to manage my money with both Microsoft Money and doing it manually in Excel.
I really wanted to give it a try regardless of my first impressions, because I spent a lot of money on it, so I have been using it for several months. I have setup my accounts, budget, and investments, which required a lot of time and produced a lot of frustration (and swearing) just to get to the calculations and assumptions in the ballpark of correct. However, every time I use it, I have to go in and correct something, and it has become beyond frustrating and extremely counterproductive. After this last time of trying to correct all the errors in my transactions after updating from my bank, I have convinced myself to go back to my Excel spreadsheet and manage everything myself ...to save time! ...and that's just sad.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Nothing noted.
Cons: 1.) Won't work with bank's bill pay. Forced to use Quicken Bill Pay @ $10/month.
2.) Really awful user interface. Looks like feels like it was designed and written by chimps.
3.) Buggy account download with multi-account banks.Summary: On-off Quicken user for over 20 years. Migrated from Quicken 2004 to MS Money as a protest to Intuit's strong-arm policies. MS Money has served me very well, but ...
Summary: On-off Quicken user for over 20 years. Migrated from Quicken 2004 to MS Money as a protest to Intuit's strong-arm policies. MS Money has served me very well, but is longer available, and online services will cease to work in a few months. So forced to look at Quicken again, but tried to keep an open mind. It's really gone downhill since I last used it. It appears Intuit's only interest is in forcing people to pay monthly fees for bank services they get elsewhere for free, and pandering to advertisers. The blatant shilling of products and services is integrated into a product I paid for? That's just ridiculous. If Quicken were free, fine, then I could understand supporting it with advertising, but this is just wrong. Regardless, the shilling is a nit compared to the other product shortcomings. This thing is buggy, bloated, and quite possibly has one of the worst user interfaces I've used in recent memory. Calling CS was yet another reminder of how bad things have gotten in terms of US companies using cheap overseas labor. I used the product for a few hours, but the issues I found were show-stoppers for me. I promptly uninstalled the product and requested a refund from Intuit (their vaunted satisfaction guarantee), to which of course I got the old "call the retailer-call Intuit" finger point routine. So I'm out my money, lesson learned.
Needless to say, I will not be buying anything that Intuit has it's hands in ever again. They have stolen my money for the last time. I'd rather revert to keeping my finance with a napkin and pencil then use intuit garbage ever again.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

WATCH OUT!!!
by Totalwreck2 on June 17, 2010
Pros: Logo is a nice shade of red.
They didn't charge me for the lengthy tech call.
Some of my accounts made the leap from 2007 OK.Cons: My most active account got corrupted. The memorized payee list vanished, and every payee all the way back to 2007 got converted to "check". AND Outlook crashes every time, so I have to keep rebooting the computer.
Summary: AND It doesn't recognize my vault password. After over an hour on the phone with tech support I learned that 2010 didn't install correctly.

I need to reinstall it, AND the lost payees must be reentered manually.
Quicken 2010 does not work with Outlook 2003, AND they will let me know when they have a solution.

Pros: I works and I have owned it for years
Cons: Been disappointed for years. The worst customer support ever. Really tired of speaking to Bangladesh or wherever.
Summary: Truly wish there was a good alternative for less money.

Pros: it is an okay financial program for windows, when it or windows works
Cons: oh, where to start.....wait! Customer Service! or lack of the "service" part. I have used this program for years, and put up with the crap that Intuit calls "customer service", but after a time it becomes too much.
Summary: Buy it, you are stuck. But when things don't work I expect an answer, from a human, in a language I speak, at a time I can reasonably call. ...
Summary: Buy it, you are stuck. But when things don't work I expect an answer, from a human, in a language I speak, at a time I can reasonably call. Oh, and without filling in an interminable form with no apparent end that ultimately does end in a computer/robot/machine/or underpaid offshore national with a script answer. I have no problem with a foreign national taking my money to answer a question about the program I just bought. I have a problem when they simply cannot or will not answer, then offer to charge $24.99 for the "right" answer, presumably from someone who has used or seen the program.
The Intuit plan has apparently been to buy any program that is as good or better, then bring it the the Quicken/Quickbooks standard.
Really, once you've entered thousands of transactions will you be willing to do it all again?Even if you were willing Intuit is not.
So buy the new program (same as thew old except sometimes worse, this years glaring error is next year's improvement). When it does not do what you expect you might call customer service, but they were jettisoned years ago. So maybe ou'll send an email or try the "real time/right now" customer service support. Good luck.
What is most aggravating about Intuit/Quicken/Quickbooks is the astounding hubris and disdain they apparently hold for their customers/hostages.
I have the "secret" answer that everyone knows that would change their image, the perception of the company and the satisfaction of their customers.
But these folks won't pick up a phone to communicate with their paying customers - and I have paid for years.
So here is my endorsement: buy it, never use it online, don't pay quicken or any entity a dime to get data that is yours that someone is trying to sell you. Never upgrade and never, ever try to talk to someone in customer service. It is like putting lipstick on a pig; you got lipstick all over you and no matter how loud you holler, in whatever language you holler, the pig will not hear you.
Intuit will just take your money and never pick up the phone. You'll figure out your answer or get some =of the amazing fellow sufferers online to help you out, but you'll most likely not feel good about this purchase.
The shame is that the difference between customer loyalty and customer anger is so small. This corporation has an adequate product ( circa 1995) yet has managed to alienate their customer base for so many years on so many levels.
Intuit has purchased all worthy contenders, eliminating choice and making conversion to anything else difficult if not impossible.
So count me in as a loyal but unwilling and certainly unenthusiastic customer....can't wait for 2011.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Could not convert quicken files from previous version.

The whole menu is full of clutter and in ways just plain stupid and confusing.
joke!Summary: Save your money and stick with whatever version you have. I have been using Quicken for YEARS but it is over priced,
some so call upgrades are same as year ...Summary: Save your money and stick with whatever version you have. I have been using Quicken for YEARS but it is over priced,
