This seems like a BETA version.
by RRRJJR on November 3, 2011
Pros: Great for manual entry of personal finances. Gives you a very good picture of where your money is going.
Cons: Locks up when downloading transactions and updating accounts.
Won't download mortgage accounts.
Setup can be time consuming if you have many accounts.
No companion app for you phone or ipad.
Summary: I have been with Quicken since 2000. I only upgrade every 3 years. There are many things I like about the new software, like the better layout and find functions ...

Summary: I have been with Quicken since 2000. I only upgrade every 3 years. There are many things I like about the new software, like the better layout and find functions but it does basically what my 2009 version did. I was really wanting the download of transactions to work. But, unfortunately it does not. I have tried for the last week to get my bank transactions to download consistently even going to the point of creating a new quicken file and starting from scratch. This solved all my merging of transaction issues.
I was able to download all of my transactions from 3 accounts at my bank only one time. But, after that all I get is error messages when it tries to update the accounts later. I went to quickens website and did all the things it said to do. I went to the forums. No Joy there either. Just disappointment. It seems like this is a BETA version that has not been fully tested and written.
I will still use Quicken and continue to enter everything manually. But I will continue to look for a better product to replace it.
I would use Mint but it does not do some of the things that quicken does well. But Mint does download my transactions flawlessly but it doesnt give me a good picture of my finances.
I know that Quicken bought Mint but the 2 programs are not integrated.

Hold on Quicken 2012
by techfrolney on October 29, 2011
Pros: It's Quicken
Cons: Problems with 2012 version since release:
- R1 and R2 required 3rd party cookies be enabled for download from your banks, credit card companies, etc. to work; Quicken 2011 and older NEVER did and there is NO technical reason for this.
- R3 fixed abov
Summary: Wait till Jan/Feb/Mar of 2012 to install Quicken 2012...by then, Intuit should have fixed these bugs...

My summary is this product is terrible!
by 1911-Shooter on May 15, 2012
Pros: None that I can think of (see Cons)!
Cons: Simply put, there was nothing wrong with my older version of Quicken 2009, until I could no longer up load. I HATE this new version and this will be the last time I buy Quicken. I'll use a spread sheet before I go back.
Summary: I have neither the time, patience nor the inclination to re-learn the current features of this program! Intuit should not have messed with a viable program. Very very unsatisfied non-returning ...

Q2012 ported the budget tool from MINt.
by groundhunter on February 29, 2012
Pros: It is Quicken. There are few alternatives except perhaps YNAB.
Cons: Quicken removed the roll over function, instituted a rolling budget with no carry overs. It does not allow editing of past months, nor will it accept negative entries. This is not a budget tool.
Summary: Quicken needs to quickly update their budget tool into something that is usefull like a real budgeting program.

2012 Quicken: "If it ain't broke, break it"
by omiekerr on February 2, 2012
Pros: Unlike other programs I tried (including Quicken's own Essentials for Mac) Quicken 2012 at least has an annual budget graphic with some flexibility and a budget reporting function.
Cons: Awkward budgeting function
Inability to delete categories
Inaccurate Budget Reports
Summary: What happened? I used to love the budgeting function in Quicken, where you could move around the annual budget graph, making entries where they belonged and clicking on "fill row ...

Summary: What happened? I used to love the budgeting function in Quicken, where you could move around the annual budget graph, making entries where they belonged and clicking on "fill row right" when appropriate. Now you have to choose "average" or "specify" for each category; this means a separately entering a lot more items. Booooring..... Also, Quicken 2012 hides each month in the budget graphic as the month ends, so there's no way to make a correction once you're in a new month.
As far as I can tell, you can't delete categories from the master list. While you can select the ones you want to appear on your own budget and reports, you have to scroll through ALL the categories to find the one you want to assign to a transaction. This means you have to be VERY careful not to assign a category you're not even using, as it just won't show up on your own reporting. Why? How hard would it have been to have kept the "delete" function.
And the budget report has a major glitch. Any item that's been entered as a "specify" in the budget appears as a negative budget item. So when you spend against it, it includes both the expenditure and the budget figure as a total negative figure in the "differences" column. I've been told that engineers are working to correct this glitch, but I can only ask myself why they screwed up a previously perfectly working function in the first place, and didn't anyone actually try this out before they put it on the market. I'm disappointed.
