Fantastic Tool for Managing Finances
by lawilson2 on August 22, 2006
Pros: Absolutely love receipt storage option!!!
Cons: Budget feature could be a bit easier to manage

Summary: I've used Quicken for the last few years after using Money for years before that. I bought the 2005 H&B version a couple of years ago and loved it. I loved the tracking of my business and personal expenses, I loved the mileage tracker, and all of the features that make it a great product. But something was missing, and they included it in 2007.
For each transaction, I can now scan in the receipt as an image or PDF (I do PDF), and just attach it. This is my way of keeping my office paperless and keeping track of receipts! I've been waiting for months for this since they leaked details of it, and I've been using it the last week or so and it's been super. The new layout of the front page is nice, and it feels a lot smarter. I'm very happy with my decision to upgrade.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This morning I logged onto the Quicken/Intuit Website with the intention of purchasing one of the products. After going through demos and comparing, I opted for Home and Business 2007.
The website, as of about 7am Pacific time showed this product at 71.99 with free shipping. When I added it to my cart, it showed a price of 79.99. It was too early to call as the Website help line stated it was open at 8am pac time. So I waited.
I went back to the original screen to look at it again and, yes the price was the 71.99, left the screen open and worked on other items.
At 8am, I went to "contact us" on their website and saw that there may be a charge to call... so I read up on that and the hair on the back of my neck started to stand up when I read that there is a 24.99 charge unless you are calling to purchase or have install questions. I called anyway, since it is free if I want to give them my money, and talked to an out sourced person who could not understand the issue because of her ability to understand and speak English. After explaining it a couple of times she walked through it with me, WHICH I did on a new screen to keep my old one up, and the new screen did show the 79.99 as the price. Two screens, same address, two prices... interesting.
At this point I asked if all of their phone service calls were outsourced. I was told yes...
With all of the above being the case, I am interested in doing business with a company like that.

Quicken 07 is SCAREY
by capley on April 17, 2007
Pros: There are no Pros
Cons: Data Integrity is suspect at best
Summary: Beware of this upgrade. I have been using QUICKEN since day 1, and this upgrade has caused me more lost time and data integrity problems than ever.

Customer Support is farmed out to India (?), and so far, I have not talked to anyone who knows anything about the product. It is clear they are reading from a script, guessing which problem I am reporting. Intuit has effectively locked me out of their User Forum, by invalidating my User Name and Password.
Every month I spend hours reconciling all of my accounts, but by the following month, there are errors again, and I start the process all over. The "validate" function reports errors and fixes of the database, but if I run it again without any new input, the same error/fix is reported!
The "new look" includes many windows that cannot be viewed completely, or scrolled, in any resolution, and the User must guess what the TAB and ENTER keys will produce.
All in all, I have never used a more problematic software, and my personal finances are a disaster. I am going to return to simple spreadsheets, trusting the Statements I receive from my Financial Institutions over the garbage coming out of QUICKEN!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Half-baked release not up to par
by rmm92vt on March 24, 2007
Pros: Nice marketing and presentation
Cons: Bugs a plenty - check Intuits site

Summary: I've been an MS Money user for about 7 years. Used Quicken before that for about the same amount of time. MS Money is a fine application, but I was far too aware of its warts after using it for so long and I was ready to try out the competition.
On the attaching of files to line items in your register: this is useless IMO. Do I trust ANY software to keep my finacial records intact should I get audited? Heck No. I run a consulting biz and I keep paper copies of everything 5 years back. Why waste time scanning it in? Stick it in a box like everyone else.
Before getting into why I rated this product "Poor" let me first say that my friends tell me recent versions did not manifest any of these symptoms. Nevertheless, I think I've convinced them to hold off on buying the '07 offering. This product is not up to par for Quicken; hopefully this does not indicate a downward trend. Someone needs to keep MS in check.
My main issue is with printing and customizing reports. Quite simply, you can't. Not with my hardware - or with about a zillion other hardware combinations mentioned on Intuit's user forum. Do a search for "report font size" at:
http://www.quickenforums.com/index.jspa
You'll see a host of users hot under the collar because they get their printed reports in a microscopic 0.0001 point font no matter what combination of settings, drivers, or printers they try. First mention of the problem was in Aug 06 with R1. They are at R4 now in Mar 07 and it's still not fixed.
The workaround everyone seems to be using is to print to a pdf then send that to the printer!
My other main beef is the register interface. IMHO, it is quite inferior to MS Money. I was hoping for an improvement there, but didn't get one. I hate that no matter where you are in the register, something is always highlighted in blue for editing. There's no "cursor mode" to enter by hitting <esc> so that an accidental key stroke doesn't blow away a field on a random line while you scroll around looking for something.
Also, very clunky and buggy when it comes to operation of the category and payee pulldown menus. You can actually get stuck at the bottom of the category pulldown and you won't be able to back out.
Did Intuit outsource their beta testing to India? It seems like that's where all their phones are routed when you try to get support!
Come on Intuit - Get with it! We're counting on you!Updated
Just got off the phone with Intuit Tech Support which was apparently outsourced but surprisingly helpful!
The printing bug was confirmed although it seems to mostly affect those with laser printers. I was given a workaround which was to simply create another printer profile for a LaserJet 5 that is directed to my multifunction Brother printer's network port. It worked.
My review still stands at 3 for this product, but I imagine others will have much better opinions if they don't run into any of these problems.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

$100 for ADWARE, NOTsoftware!

Summary: after dropping $100 for this program, I eagerly went to "add bank" for all the promised features. Bank of America charges $10/mo if you want to use Quicken with it. After calling BoA, I learned that Quicken is the one charging several banks! This is not to mention TONS of Adware, poor interface with little control over setting the "feel" of the program. Loads several ad-links "services" when it installs. This is DREADFUL programing and will cost TONS of money to use it as it describes. I am calling them and seeking a refund seeing there are fees and more advertising than actual product!

Problems with 2007 Online Downloads

Summary: Quicken 2007 isn't able to download online financial instituion transactions. We emailed Quicken support and also called support only to be informed they are not able to help. We requested a refund but we were past our 60 days. We had the software for 67 days. To us it shouldn't matter how long we had this software. If it doesn't download transactions as it claims it can, we should be refunded our monies. Our bank told us that quicken is not able to download because of the added security measures that the bank has taken for online banking. Other banks have done the same, and as of a certain date, (can't remember what the date was), quicken and other financial software will stop working with downloading online transactions. So if you get a error message, probably it will be OL-221 or OL-301, you can stop trying to resolve the problem because there is not a fix. We wasted 67 days trying to get it fixed.
