If you don't use this with Quicken, forget it

Pros: Adds asset value to Quicken
Cons: Too many to list

Summary: I read terrible, yes terrible reviews about this software, but I really wanted something that would integrate with my Quicken Home & Business 2008 Software. It does what I want in that it adds transactions to the Home Inventory and it adds asset values to my net worth. As a standalone software, however, it is really pretty bad. I have 2GB of memory with an AMD 4800+ dual core processor running XP. Not the newest, but not slow either. This software is sluggish for sure. It uses about 40MB of RAM and my CPU load is only 1-3%, but it runs as if it is using over 256MB of memory and 50% or more of CPU load. Installation was not hard, I already have net framework 2.0 installed. You need it to run the software and I know that Net Framework 2.0 is a huge installation in itself. At any rate, my installation took literally under 1 minute. That was the only fast part.
Adding items is slow. The descriptions for the software features is deceptive to the consumer. You can only add picture files for receipts, etc, NOT .pdf. Quicken H&B allows attachments of .pdf files which is one of its best features.
If information has come via email, you really are stuck. The reading space for notes is minuscule and they won't show up fully on a report. The only way around is to print, then scan to a .jpg file which is a waste of time and paper.
Features are bare minimum. Reports only have 2 choices: Summary and Detail.
I know I will be much better about adding items to inventory as they are put into Quicken H&B because of the integration, but as I said, if you don't need that feature, look elsewhere!5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Seriously Poor Software
by BackupInsanity on February 11, 2011
Pros: Allows tracking of items, multiple images, claims, etc., pretty average from a design perspective.
Cons: Where to begin. It does not work consistently with Windows 7. You can set it to run in xp service pack 3 compatibility and it works, but it's REALLY slow and sluggish, kind of like trying to clap your hands underwater. No way to get data out.
Summary: Here's the real kicker - quicken home inventory does not give you a way to convert your inventory to their next release, and no way to extract the inventory ...
Summary: Here's the real kicker - quicken home inventory does not give you a way to convert your inventory to their next release, and no way to extract the inventory to say, a text or spreadsheet format so you can load it into another product. You essentially are boned once you start using it. The one single "ok" thing is that it updates quicken with the value of your home inventory, but it's an aggregate number, so big deal, right? You can just enter in the number manually from far better product.
Bottom line is, I don't get why a company like Intuit would produce such an inadequate, poorly performing, poor designed product. There's a real need for a great home inventory product that integrates with quicken, but this isn't it. -
Don't buy if you ever plan to use WIndows 7, NO SUPPORT
by big44mikem on November 29, 2010
Pros: Nice to keep records all in one place.
Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 7 and Quicken support says no fixes or new versions are planned. If you were using this product with a previous version of Windows and either upgrade or buy a new comnputer, YOU ARE SCREED!
Summary: I have used this product for years entering thousands of items. I bought a new computer running Windows 7 and found this product will not run under WIndows 7. Quicken ...
Summary: I have used this product for years entering thousands of items. I bought a new computer running Windows 7 and found this product will not run under WIndows 7. Quicken supoort says they have no intention of fixing the product and no new versions. They do have an inventory tab in regular Quicken Premier 2011 which when you click on it looks alot like the Home Inventory stand alone product. In the 2009 version of Quicken, this tab read the data from the Quicken Home Inventory program so it would seem that it could do it here too. But no, not under Windows 7. They don't even offer a conversion program to convert the old Home Inventory database to the Quicken data base. They are different structures and Quicken again told me that the only option is to manually re-enter ALL the data. It sucks that a company like Intuit can get away with this, especially since they still market and sell the Quicken Home Inventory program on their web site. However, they are careful in that under the requirements section, they indiated that valid operating systems are Vista and XP. There is no specifice reference that it won't work on Windows 7. So don't buy this product under any circumstance. It is just a matter of time before every runs Windows 7 or whatever comes next and Quicken doesn't give a damn about the hours and hours of entry you would lose when you upgrade.
