Breaks very Easy; You get what you pay For with this
by amosbranch on April 5, 2007
Pros: It works, but prepare to replace in 3 to 6 months if that long
Cons: It willget you started if you're only testing wireless technology
Summary: I would move toward something without the antenia, this is the only real problem with this and other simpliar products.

Here's what to do if u have:
if the antenna breaks, get a new antenna or dump it and buy a whole new set (not from belkin, no way!) If the antenna is functional, then DONT install the software! Manualloy install the windows driver and let windows handle it. A small bonus is that it works on linux if thats what u use. -
Do not waste your time - do not purchase

Summary: Just got back from returning mine to Staples and exchanging it for a Linksys Wireless G PC Adapter. I have a laptop with wireless right next to the desktop I purchased the card for. My laptop gets great reception for the wireless network so when I installed the Belkin card and saw that the signal was only at approx. 15% and could barely stay on the network, I knew it was trouble. After checking for updated drivers and some tinkering, I decided to bring it back and exchange it for the more expensive Linksys card. While it hurt to fork out an additional $25 for the Linksys card, I am now up and running within a minute of installing the Linksys and surprise, surprise... my signal is now at approx. 90% and I'm able to write this review from my wireless DESKTOP now

Don't waste your time with the Belkin like I did - unless you are within a few feet of the router (in which case I would assume it would work fine). Step up and purchase the Linksys. -
It was broken out of the box.
by maxxx on September 4, 2006
Pros: I did manage to get it configured without any trouble at all.
Cons: It has never worked properly.

Summary: When i bought this almost a year ago it was for the purpose of linking a computer in the basement to the network. When the signal constantly went in, out and dropped - i thought it was because it was in the basement and the router in on the third floor (and maybe because the wirless phone was inbetween). In frustration, I ran a 50' cable and forgot about it.
Well, now I moved the computer in the next room. I never realized the antenae came off so easily. Its my fault for not noticing it - but Circuit City will never take it back. -

Pros: None. Hopefully be out of business soon.
Cons: Forget about the "Lifetime" warranty the won't honor it.

I have the same card and after three weeks of waiting on the shipment I've been "dropped" from the supervisor's approval list requiring another ten bussiness days and waiting for a phone call to "verify" my shipping address again

Works very well
by Ron Denhaan on April 15, 2006
Pros: Price, ease of installation, good software, good range
Cons: May need to install more than once to make it work

The first install pass did not work. More properly speaking, it didn't reconnenct or work at all after re-booting. After loading the latest Win2K service packs, I removed and re-loaded the software WITH the card in place. This time the software "stuck", and it reconnects to the network immediately after booting.
The range is also excellent. During the installation work, the system was located in the same room as the router. After all testing was completed, the system was moved to an open loft on a different floor (the wireless antenna was placed nearly flat against a wall). It still picks up a good, strong signal from the router and the system has no problem connecting to the internet.
My impression is that this card will work very well if you work with it a bit, even with older pentium 2s and 3s. I have worked with several add-on wireless cards and adapters and one tip I would pass on is that it's much easier when you have Win XP or Win 2K, and have updated to the latest service packs.
I would definitely buy another one of these cards. -

by tutenstein on May 20, 2005
Pros: Cheap and reliable
Cons: None I can think of

Works as advertised, but it could be easier to configure!
Pros: Works as advertised, excellant utilities included for power users
Cons: The plastic bolt cover cracked; the software interface will be somewhat daunting for novices, but you can turn it off.

Summary: Don't buy. It may sound trivial but my conputer is under my desk so I have to disconnect all wires, move computer to work are, open it and remove wireless card. Then put back under deck and reconnect. Load software. Disconnect and moce computer, open again and reinstall wireless board, put back under desk and reconnect. About 1/2 hr manipulating the computer. Anybody that designs a product like that is pretty stupid in my book
