Samsung's way to make an extra buck!

Summary: It came as an included accessory for my Samsung BD-P3600 Blue ray player. To set it up it was easy as plug it and choose the network in the Blue Ray player main menu. My troubles began when I purchased the Samsung UN46B7000 LED TV. Since I already had the Samsung Link Stick adapter from my blue ray player, I did not run to buy another one (at least until I give the TV a test Drive). My surprise was that it did not work. The TV does not recognize it. I called Samsung Technical Support and they walk me trough to every possible solution.... They made me upgrade the TV firmware, reset it, plug the Link Stick in one USB port, then to try the other one, turn it on, turn it off.... etc. Never worked... They said that "although the link stick was part of my Blue ray Player" it should work in the TV as well. The 2nd level technician told me that will research the case further and they would call me back with a resolution. (Obviously, no one have contacted me ever since). Since it works just fine with my blue ray player my theory is that this wireless adapter is not only Samsung proprietary, but is not interchangeable, even between their own devices. This is only my speculation, but I'll make sure to update this post once I have reached "the bottom line" of this case.
If the link stick model number ends in a number 2 It won't work on their TV's "Blue ray players only" .Answer to the problem. I am a very rational person and I am extremely disappointed about the fact that Samsung have not publicly disclosed this. There are a good number of consumers (including me) that make their final purchase decisions (brand) based in the compatibility of their own brand hardware. Samsung costumer Support "1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864)" is one of the poorest I have experienced ever. They have giving me turns and turns about this issue. Mostly because they are not knowledgeable. After a week of going back and for? yesterday, they set me up with one of their affiliates to pick the TV up and have it checked. What a waist of resources? Today I learned trough CNET's Samsung Blog the right answer.

This thing with only work on Samsung 2009 products, eh?
by SavoryDave on December 9, 2009
Pros: It's pretty. Pretty useless

Summary: I got this doo-dad with my Samsung Blu-Ray player, but it worked so poorly that I connected the Blu-Player directly to my Wi-Fi router via ethernet. So I had this rather expensive looking LAN adapter left-over, and thought maybe we could use it for a PC that we wanted to connect via Wi-Fi, right? No way Jose. It appears to have been built using proprietary hardware/software, so if you're not using it for their specific Samsung product - you're SOL. I consider it to be a telling indictment of Samsung, that they cripple their hardware/software to be incompatible & useless to the owners of it.

This Product is a Hose Job
by curlyvandyke on November 30, 2009

Cons: Way over priced, difficult to link to wireless network, stopped working after 6 months, found out it has a 30 day warranty.

Summary: I bought this product for $82 plus $10 S&H. Had a difficult time connecting to my wirless network, intallation manual was useless, customer help line even more useless (the first tech I spoke to didn't even know this was a Samsung product). AFter 6 months, the LinkStick stopped working. Samsung tells me it has a 30 warranty and there is nothing they can do about it. 30 days warranty on an $80 part?? Tells me Samsung doesn't stand by their product.

Sucks/ I haven't bought one
by sdhendric on April 16, 2010
Pros: nothing....print on the Blue Ray box is misleading...
Cons: I will never buy Samsung again....did not specify on box that it was proprietary needed to work the wireless connection...you have to find the small print....
Summary: Why would I buy a small unreliable device (according to the other reviews) , that is over priced when I have other more reliable devices...(my Roku device)...I am ticked ...
Summary: Why would I buy a small unreliable device (according to the other reviews) , that is over priced when I have other more reliable devices...(my Roku device)...I am ticked off to no end...I never right reviews, but this product needs to change its advertisement on the box....The only reason I bought the Blue Ray player to begin with was because it said it was wireless ready and I happen to have two extra netgear adaptes at home....bought it last night...taking it back today.....the netflix, pandora, and other internet tv channels are awesome...just find some other way to view them...

Summary: I bought the 550 Samsung tv because under its specifications on the website it says that it is compatible with the link stick and the 650 series is not. However , I found out that the site is misprinted. When you look under the specifications for the Link Stick it say just the opposite. Long story short it does not work with the 550 series. In fact it works with only one plasma tv the 650 series.
