Summary: This works awesome with both my xbox and xbox 360. However when I decided to secure my network, I was on the phone for 4 hours talking to India, trying to fix it. This happened again when I got a new router. However, despite this problem, it works great.

What a horrible product!
by cthomason36 on August 12, 2005
Pros: Makes a great paperweight
Cons: Dropped signal, poor software, tech support is a joke
Summary: To put it mildly, the WGA54G is a worthless pile of garbage. I've had nothing but trouble since I purchased this game adapter two months ago.

I play Socom 2 online and I get booted every single night, usually every 20-30 minutes. I've spent countless hours with Linksys tech support. I even went out and bought a brand new Linksys Wireless-G router, hoping that the problem was with my Microsoft router...WRONG! I'm having the same problem.
I've spent a total of 4 hours with Linksys tech support...upgrading the firmware, changing the settings, etc. Anything you can imagine, I've done it.
The truth of the matter is this is a horribly unreliable product, period. I hope others don't make the same mistake that I did. This is truly the worst $100 I've ever spent in my life. -

Summary: I bought this adapter for my ps2 and I spent countless agonizing hours trying to get it on my wireless network. I called the linksys tech support and not even they could help me. It was riduculous. I never got it to work so I got a refund. Don't buy this unless wish to lose your mind trying to make it work

Easy to setup especially if using a linksys router
by hoju22 on July 18, 2005
Pros: no wires, no tangled cat-5
Cons: Wired still better
Summary: Easy to setup if you are using a linksys router. Took less than 10mins to setup.

Don't know what the other reviewer meant when they said the retailer would not return it but all retail stores (not online) have some sort of return policy, as long as you are within that time frame (2-4weeks average). Bought the B version and Best Buy even took it back from me for a full refund, twice!
This is not a bad product, Most of the time it worked excelente for me but devices such as microwaves and 2.4Ghz phones can make you lag or even drop a game. When my wife would use the microwave I would almost always drop the game.
If you MUST have a wireless connection, go with this or the D-link (I tend to keep everything the same brand for ease of setup). From what I hear avoid Microsofts version at all costs.
The only reason this did not score higher than 'good' for me is because this is not a replacement for wired... wired is still better. -
Couldn't even get my PC to recognize it while plugged in
by Jeffi on May 10, 2005

Summary: I spent the better part of a day and a half trying to set this up. I finally realized that my PC couldn't even contact it while it was plugged in for set up. It looked to me as if the network jack on the adapter was faulty. At this point I gave up.
I've spend some time prowling various forums, and there are numerous people with multiple major problems with this unit.
Unless you are an advanced user, I'd stay away from this product, and even then I wouldn't bother unless it was being sold at a fire sale price. -
Takes forever to set up
Pros: None i can think of
Cons: Way over priced. Takes for ever to setup. had it for a week and never got it to work after 4 hours with linksys. took this one back and got the WGA54AG. This one was simple. Plug in the Ethernet cable to the back of the console and put the electrical plug

Headache for non-techies
Pros: Works through 2 floors in the basement. No real drops or lags so far. Connection is fast.
Cons: Like another reviewer, spent about an hour and a half on the phone with Linksys. They were extremely helpful in my case (and it does actually work) but the set-up hassle for a supposed "plug&play," the cost, and wait for the product were not worth the

Poor product and support
Pros: Works fine with Wireless G and WEP as long as you have fixed IPs and don't update the firmware
Cons: Requires fixed IPs to manage and run smoothly with mulitple consoles, LEDs don't light properly, firmware update screws up G-compatibility and WEP. No WPA. No old firmware to go back to. Linksys support is awful.

Doesnt work with Linksys Router
Pros: Um, maybe the Linksys name and cheaper and the Microsoft name brand adapter.
Cons: The router is not compatible with the Linksys WRT54G router. The adapter will only connect to the network if you broadcast your SSID and dis-able Mac filtering. Both big no-no's. Linksys is aware of the problem and is working on new firmware. It took

buy an additional modem instead
Pros: Simple setup
Cons: piece of crap if something goes wrong, Horrid tech support. Mine worked okay for about a year (constant disconnects on SOCOMII) then stopped working. Took Linksys about 2.5 hrs to tell me it was fried. Buy an additional modem instead of this junk for on
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Linksys Inc.
- Part number: WGA54G
- Description: The Wireless-G Game Adapter gives any wired Ethernet-equipped game console wireless connection capabilities. The Game Adapter can be used in two different ways. If you have an existing home wireless network and a cable or DSL Internet connection, the Game Adapter lets your PlayStation 2, Xbox or GameCube attach to the network so you can get into online games without running wires to the game room. Or, use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles for head-to-head gaming - in the same room, or all the way across the house. It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform. Since there are no drivers to load, setup is a snap. In some cases, it works right out of the box! If your setup's a little different - just configure the network settings through your PC's web browser, plug it into your game box, and go. The Wireless-G Game Adapter provides lag-free gaming with communication speeds up to 54Mbps when connected to other Wireless-G devices. It can also connect to Wireless-B (802.11b) devices and networks at 11Mbps. Spend your time gaming, not stringing wires, with the Linksys Wireless-G Game Adapter.
