The good: The Lepai LP-2020A+ is an ultracheap mini amplifier that offers 20 watts per channel, two inputs, and bass and treble controls.
The bad: There's no remote control, and the blue illuminated ring surrounding the volume control is glaringly bright in a dark room. The amp is so light (if not fastened down) that it slides around when the controls are used.
The bottom line: As long as you're realistic about the capabilities and limited features set of the Lepai LP-2020A+, you can't go wrong with this little $25 amp.

For the price this thing is a steal!
by padfoo06 on April 26, 2012
Pros: Low price
Great sound
Plays louder than expected
Solid constructionCons: I could not get the line to work without creating a low hum, so I used headphone to RCA plug Y-cord and had no problems after that.

Summary: I bought this amp to power two tiny ok shelf speakers I had laying around after my computer speakers died. I coupled the speakers and amp with a 40watt powered sub I also had and the sound is fantastic for something in this price point.

This amp sounds good using bookshelf speakers.
by bobwolfeum on April 26, 2012
Pros: Input using headphone to RCA plug Y-cord. Plug into IPhone with MLPlayer Lite as a DLNA player or with Pandora for streaming music. I used (good) recycled speakers that were stored in my closet.
Cons: Bright light when on (cover with bandaid).
Summary: Great low-cost compact media player.

Good for the money.

Summary: This amp claims to output 20 watts per channel, which is kind of true. At 4 ohms it will push nearly that before distortion is audible. However, most home speakers are 8 ohms. So most people will only get 2 x 10 watts out of this amp.
For many applications, however, this is just fine. I use the amp to drive two 8 ohm outdoor speakers on my back patio and get plenty of clean volume from them. If it where any louder my neighbors would call the cops.
This is a bare bones amp. But for the price, well, what do you expect? I do wish it at least had a headphone jack. That couldn't add too much to the cost.
All in all, a great little amp once you consider the price. I just wish the advertised power rating where clearer.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

What a deal!
by Downforce on April 22, 2013
Pros: Drives my large-ish Cambridge Soundworks speakers beautifully! Sounds better than the monolith Kenwood and Sony receivers I had. Connected a laptop using the MP3 jack, higher resolution files sound fantastic without using a DAC.
Cons: No headphone jack

$20... really?
by acron1 on August 1, 2012
Pros: Sound is very good.
It stays cool even under load.
Metal construction.
Separate Bass and Treble controls.Cons: Very light... Has to be secured with screws so it doesn't move
every time you touch it.
That blue ring around the volume...ouch!
No headphone output.Summary: I had a pair of Bose 6.2 speakers collecting dust in my basement so when I saw the article on this little amp I thought why not? I listen ...
Summary: I had a pair of Bose 6.2 speakers collecting dust in my basement so when I saw the article on this little amp I thought why not? I listen to music these days mostly while on my computer so... The sound of this little amp hooked up to my computer and my old speakers is WAY, WAY better than the powered computer speakers (with sub) I had before... Hell, for $20 this was a fantastic upgrade.

For a small / inexpensive speaker, this is AWESOME!!
by mathteacher909 on May 30, 2012
Pros: Very small, plays loud enough for a small space, easy to use, like the old aligator inputs, and works as advertised.
Cons: Doesn't have a remote and the blue light on the front piece is kind of annoying.
Summary: Nothing better for the price. I bought one as an experiment with the intention of giving it to my son if it worked out OK. It works out way better ...
Summary: Nothing better for the price. I bought one as an experiment with the intention of giving it to my son if it worked out OK. It works out way better than OK! This isn't audiophile quality (how could it be for the price), but for getting more and better sound from a phone or MP3 player it is awesome. My son will definitely be happy with this little amplifier, especially since it will work with any old pair of unpowered speakers.

Summary: I purchased this to run speakers in my bedroom using an Apple AirPort express as input. I've got the amp and the airport express on the floor underneath the dresser so all I see is the speakers. It works fantastic. It has taken the place of a small (1' x 1' x 16") stereo. Out of sight and out of mind. Works great.

Fantastic little amp, great deal!
by jsc1973 on May 10, 2012
Pros: Surprisingly well-built, much better sound than you would expect, and lots of punch.
Cons: Not in the class of high-dollar amps, but close enough that you might not notice.

Summary: I'm surprised that this is just now coming to CNET's attention; the Lepai Tripath amps have been around a few years now, and are better than ever since a revision in 2011. I had a set of $150 M-Audio monitors hooked up to my computer, but one of them died and I needed a replacement. For the cost of a Lepai 2020A+ and some new caps for a set of Radio Shack Minimus 7W's I had, I ended up with better audio than I had before. This is one "cheap Chinese" part that more than does the job!

Small, simple, & does what I want it to do!
by Calif_techwriter on May 9, 2012
Pros: Sound quality is good
Easy to set-up
Small and good looking
Enough power for my garage setup

Summary: Initially I had no sound when I hooked up the mini-plug from my ipod to the mini-plug input. Another reviewer said to connect to the RCA jacks instead. I bought a mini-to-RCA cable from Newegg and now have sound. Not sure what the problem was but I don't care anymore.
I hooked it up to two older 4 ohm car speakers that I had laying around and it works fine. I can now easily listen to Pandora or the ipod without an expensive setup. Volume is very adequate for the large area. Sound quality sounds fine as well. Others might be pickier but I just wanted music in my garage while I'm working.
