- Bottom Line:
- Norton AntiVirus 2008 didn't wow us this year. While the protection is solid, the user experience could be much, much better, and the product itself could be more streamlined. Also we can do without the addition of paid services in the technical support section.

The good: Norton AntiVirus 2008 provides solid antivirus protection.
The bad: Norton AntiVirus 2008 is roughly six times the size of most competing antivirus applications; doesn't offer three-user license; doesn't support Firefox; doesn't work with recent Yahoo and AOL IM applications (only old versions); offers fee-based services under the guise of technical support.
The bottom line: Norton AntiVirus 2008 didn't wow us this year. While the protection is solid, the user experience could be much, much better, and the product itself could be more streamlined. Also we can do without the addition of paid services in the technical support section.

Resource hogging bloatware
by Jonathan on September 21, 2007

Cons: Dear god does it drag a system's performance down

Summary: Put simply this is probably the most bloated, resource hogging, piece of crap software on the market today. Unless you have a computer with above 512MB of RAM and at least an Intel processor that is 2.5Ghz or better don't go anywhere near this software. (I can't stress RAM enough.)
It really is a pity too since I personally run Norton Corp Edition which I consider a fantastic product.8 out of 11 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I am a PC Tech, I work in a PC Repair Shop that sees a LOT of PCs. 95% of these are Infected with Viruses & Trojans. 90% of those have "Up To Date " Norton Security Products. Where is the logic in even using Norton at this time? At one time Norton was Excellent. Those days have long passed.

Does not function consistently
by jtwright91 on September 27, 2007
Pros: Very few. I guess when it ran (very rarely) it did reasonably protect my computer.
Cons: LiveUpdate fails constantly, had to re-install mutiple times, poor customer support

I have always used Norton Antivirus at home and work. This product is horrible. Over the last 2 months, LiveUpdate fails to install updates on a regular basis, requiring me to manually download and install updates. Also, on more than 1 occasion, I have received a message that said I needed to uninstall and re-install NAV 2008. I have had to do this at least 5 times and it still fails.
This application functions so poorly, that I finally uninstalled and moved to AVG. I have a 6 months left on my subscription, but I don’t even want to use it.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cons: Made my my computer run slow
Summary: From now on I will trust the user reviews on a product. I just uninstalled it because of the lag it put on my system.

Turning off the scan for outgoing email doesn't help.
Very upsetting. Now I know what "supported" (or "not supported") means. It doesn't just ignore the program, it trashes it.
Some reviews said not supported but a Comparison Chart said it was supported.
At least as far as the trialware goes, it's bad news.
Norton 360 causes a similar problem, by the way.3 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Ease of Installation.
Little or no user interactivity is needed, however, if the user desires to configure the software, it is not Rhodes scholar material.
Buy it. Period.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
