The good: Provides regular updates; works in the background.
The bad: Expensive tech support; poor in-application help documentation.

A useless resource hog!

Pros: Easy to install, among the few available antivirus for mac, autoupdate
Cons: Always uses up at least 59% of CPU( as DiskMountNotify running in background), causes fan noise in MacBook, Annoying Popups when opening programs

Summary: I bought a MacBook a week ago and installed Norton Antivirus for Mac. Installation, like in other Mac apps, was easy. However after installation, annoying popups appear whenever you load a CD, load a USB drive, install a program, which scans the contents of those files. It takes so long for it to finish those scans that I pretty much just cancel them, much like those windows confirmation boxes. The worse effect this antivirus did was to cause the fan noise by using the CPU too much. Around 60% of the CPU is always being consumes by an application on the background called DiskMountNotify and this heats the processor to 70 deg C all the time, requiring the fan to operate at 6K rpm all the time! This cause an irritating noise that made me almost return my MacBook before I realized it was just the Norton. Uninstalling Norton was probably the best I did with my Macbook, the noise went down drastically and battery life improved. I'll just look for other antivirus instead.
