The good: Panda Antivirus 2008 includes antispyware protection.
The bad: Panda Antivirus 2008 has not been reviewed by many independent antivirus test sites, making it hard to say how effective it is; it tends to be slower than the competition; support is light, with almost no documentation and a requirement that Panda own any personal information sent via e-mail technical support.
The bottom line: Panda Antivirus 2008 is slower than the competition and lacks independent, third-party antivirus test results, and thus doesn't receive our recommendation.
Strong performer but a hog
by RogerRocket on October 13, 2008
Pros: Firewall, antivirus with huristics, all seem to work well. You should be aware that A/V signatures are for KNOWN problems. What about the unknowns? That is the holy grail and I don't know how well Panda does but it at least addresses the issue.
Cons: It sometimes is well behaved but often it takes up 50% or more of my computer cycles. Not only that but it is hard to stop Panda after it is running. I had to reboot. It takes so many cycles that I can't really do anything else.
Summary: Performance control is activated as a preference with a check in a box. It does not seem to work. Everyday, Panda goes on a run and eats up my computer'...
Summary: Performance control is activated as a preference with a check in a box. It does not seem to work. Everyday, Panda goes on a run and eats up my computer's available cycles. It is so bad that I am ready to get rid of it despite the fact that it is a package of really nice features including a firewall. I can't say that I have ever had an A/V product that I thought was great but I have never had such performance problems from one before.

Pros: Easy-to-use; As effective as market leaders such as Kaspersky
Cons: User Interface should have been designed more interactive
Summary: A very reliable antivirus, indeed!!

Software works good

Summary: I have had no need for Tech support as of yet. I go through the FAQs as well as the help files and have gained the information I needed. I rather have limited support for what I feel is an easy to use product than a bunch of support and the product does not pick up the virus/trojans/spyware on my systems.
Lousy Spyware Protection!

Summary: I'm currently running Panda 2007 but will not be getting the 2008 version. While I have not had problems with virus protection per se, my reason for switching is that Panda has been completely ineffective in blocking malware which was causing pop-ups, new windows to open and other tracking issues on my computer including causing my computer to repeatedly crash. Eventually I accessed the free Spybot (right here at Cnet) and even after many thorough sweeps with Panda- inclusing going to Panda's website and scanning specifically for the problem Panda itself said it had detected (Virtumonde), Panda was unable to locate all the corrupt files, and in many cases even when they were detected, Panda could not fix them. When I ran Spybot it immediately detected and fixed-I think the number was 78 instances of adware/spyware which Panda had not found and/or not corrected. Until a friend recommended Spybot, my computer had become virtually useless. Spybot: Thanks you! Panda: Adios!
one of the best

Summary: I used McAfee for several years but it has become rather bloated. I tried Kaspersky and BitDefender which were both very problematic. I recalled that several years back I had used Panda and liked it. Because it was not available to me locally I had stopped using it. Anyway, I decided to order it from Amazon.com and try it again.
During installation Panda found 4 items that McAfee had failed to prevent. The intial scan using Panda found 7 more items, 2 of them rootkits, that McAfee had failed to prevent or locate during scans. During operation Panda has also detected and blocked several wireless intrusion attempts. Panda also detects and removes tracking cookies such as 2o7, Hitbox, Doubleclick, etc. which McAfee promises but rarely succeeds in accomplishing.
Magazine reviews often place Panda near the lower end of the list of security software packages. They, however, are testing on computers that do not have the type of setups a user would have, not in "real world" situations.Updated
In February I gave this software a 9 of 10 review. It did nothing to make me think otherwise until April 7 when it very nearly caused a computer crash by falsely identifying a system file as a worm. For some reason it determined that wininet.dll was a worm and "disinfected" it by deleting it. The result was that although my computer would still boot up there was little else it would do. Software would not load nor was the Control Panel accessible. Fortunately I was able to boot using my Vista installation disk and do a "System Restore" and return to normal operation.
I guess things like this is why a disclaimer is part of every software license text.
Based on this experience, I withdraw my reccomendation for Panda Internet Security 2008.

Summary: Out of all the anti viruses out there that I have tried, this one seems the most reliable and active in taking care of the threats of today. Most of the people on this forum seem a bit novice at computers and I think that this could be the reason that they have so many problems. All software does not mesh together well with a system that is full of threats and bugs already. People think that you could put an anti virus on a system after the fact that they are infected. In some cases this is true, but for the most part its not supposed to be a band aid to fix all your issues. The integration of the software from Panda needs to mesh with your own system files and hardware to give you the maximum protection and this is something that no one else besides panda is doing.
Panda Antivirus 2008 not so "Light"

Summary: After installation, I used The Ultimate Troubleshooter (TUT) to see just what PA2008 had running and how much memory it was using. To my astonishment, there were 7 new services running and they were consuming over 100 megs of ram. My previous anti-virus program, NOD32, had only been using 24 megs of ram.
Panda claims in its advertisments "And it's so light, you won't even notice it."
I don't call consuming 4 times more ram than my previous AV program exactly "light".
Sorry Panda, but I think you need to put your bear on a diet.

Summary: After purchasing and downloading the software, I expereinced a glitch: I was asked to insert a CD. I copied the message and sent it to Panda Tech Support. I received no response. So much for the 24/7 support they advertise. I have since sent several e-mails to Customer Service. In response to my last e-mail, I received this response:
"Thank you for contacting Panda Security. I apologize, but I am unable to
help you further. I understand your frustration. I have sent this email
to the Tech Support Supervisor so that he may contact you."
Apparently the Tech Support Supervisor is incapable of providing support.
I rated this product 1 (zero is not available) in strict accordance with the criteria. To me, easy installation and technical support are redeeming qualities I look for in a product. This has neither. Consequently, I have no way of determining if it has any other redeeming qualities. My computer is exposed, so I have potentially been harmed. I am reluctant to use the computer because there is no security on it, so my productivity is zero.
