Best External for the money
by

Pros: It is very well featured and has worked perfectly for my logitech z5300e 5.1 speakers. I bought it because i had not pci slots open and it delerves amazing sound for dvd's, mp3's, and games. I am very impressed.
Cons: 24 bit audio only works in 4.1 but not 5.1 for me because it says i do not have enough usb/pci bandwidth. I took everything out so this was the only thing running and still nothing. 16 bit audio still sounds great though.

Summary: I was at the store debating between with this sound card or the Turtle beach Advantage Micro. And i'm glad i chose this sound card. For $49 Canadian i got an excellent sound card.I spent alot of money over the holidays and did not want to spend alot on a sound card.I have the Klipsch 2.1 Promedia speaker system which are probably the best sounding 2.1's for the money. They sound awesome on their own(with the integrated soun card),but i wanted a little extra boost.I really appreciate the low end sound. Now my pc sound system is outstanding for upgrades adding up to under $300.

Summary: I have a SONY Vaio Laptop so it came with a crappy intergrated sound card. I would use 2 2.1 speaker systems that used the mini headphone jacks and connected them with a headphone splitter so I had double the output (sorry I'm really cheap :P). After a while the my jack would wear out and start crapping out on me so I decided to spend some money on an external soundcard. I found this in circuit city for 50 bucks which was cheaper than the x-mod that was right below it. Installed it according to directions and it just ROCKS!!
PROS: Sounds absolutely amazing for 50 bucks. I just want something that made my music sound better and play loud. Its really easy to install and requires no outside power source.
CONS: Its kinda of big I dont have that much room on my tiny as hell desk. Honestly I have no right to complain as it does what I ask and is doing it well. Overall no cons as of yet.
If you're looking for a cheap upgrade the Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit External Sound Card is DEFINATLY the way to go.

Pros: It works and is very easy to install. The extra bundled software allows you to convert to MP3 and WMA in batches so it's not necessary to purchase additional conversion software. Does much else.
Cons: When you insert the headphones, the speakers cut out, which is good. What would be better is if you could leave the headphones plugged in and just push a large button to change back and forth.
Summary: I love it! I've had nothing but endless problems with the onboard sound on my computer since I got it and it's gotten worse: almost nonexistent recording problem ...

Summary: I love it! I've had nothing but endless problems with the onboard sound on my computer since I got it and it's gotten worse: almost nonexistent recording problem and horrible static when using my new Logitech Fusion webcam, which was NOT the source of the problem. Two Fusions did the exact same thing. I didn't have any open PCI slots so I plugged this baby in and instantly problem solved! Good quality sound too.

Pros: gobs of output options, all of which worked without any issues. coax digital output- no need to pay 30 buxx for for an optical cable... great sound for low dough...
Cons: system requirements; takes too much processor effort. If I had it to guess, I'd say it's just a box of outputs that lets the PC do all the processing...

Practical, but sound leaves a lot to be desired

Pros: Easy to use, just plug it in the USB port; portable with a laptop; an input for headphones on the front; handy volume control wheel; booming bass (if you're into that sort of thing).
Cons: Sounds muddy especially in the bass department, kind of like if the speaker was in a cardboard box. EQ doesn't help much either. My old internal SB Live! 5.1 beats this one hands down, which is kind of odd considering that they are practically the same pr
