Surprisingly good sound from a sleek minimalist design.

Pros: Rich sound. Cool design, especially the sliding aluminum and perspex cover. Nifty iPod/iPhone docking. Small footprint. Full size remote.

Summary: The Panasonic SC-HC3 conceals your iPhone/iPod to avoid that ?wart on a clock radio? look. At the press of a top mounted button, the brushed aluminum and smoked perspex cover slides right to reveal an iPod docking port. The port can be tilted forward for easier docking of an iPhone or large iPod. My iPhone 3GS docks easily - even with a silicon gel case fitted. Another press of the button and the cover slides back so that song, album or menu information on the iPod/iPhone screen is discreetly visible thru the perspex cover. At the touch of another button, the cover slides left to reveal the CD player.
Don?t let the size fool you, the Panasonic SC-HC3 produces a level and quality of audio that belies its small footprint. The top mounted buttons can used for basic functions. Or, simply use the full size remote control - which provides additional audio features and iPod menu navigation.
By way of a bonus, although the Panasonic SC-HC3 is not listed as iPhone compatible - an ?airplane mode? checkbox appears during iPhone docking, I have experienced no speaker crackle or interference issues while playing my 3GS in phone mode - which leads me to conclude that the speakers are well shielded. Selecting speaker mode during a call means the iPhone can remain docked for hands free conversation. A song interrupted by a phone call will resume playing after the call terminates.
