Roku 2 XS price range: $79.97 - $119.99

The good: The Roku 2 XS is a small streaming-media box that costs only $100. It offers hundreds of streaming-video and -audio services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go, Vudu, Pandora, Mog, Rdio, and MLB.TV. Roku also offers cross-platform search, capable of finding content across major streaming services. The XS model also offers 1080p HD video, an Ethernet port, a motion remote, and a free copy of Angry Birds.
The bad: For twice the price, the XS doesn't deliver a lot of compelling additional features beyond those available on the Roku LT. For those invested in the Apple ecosystem, the Roku doesn't offer the same tight integration as the Apple TV's AirPlay functionality. The Roku 2 XS also lacks channels for YouTube and Spotify.
The bottom line: The Roku 2 XS is an excellent Internet media box, but most users will find the cheaper Roku LT or Roku HD models to be a better deal.

It's the size of a deck of cards and works great!
by elecjet on April 18, 2012
Pros: STREAMING! This is what you bought it for right? Streams high def and the picture looks great.
Lots of channels to choose from.
Never unable to find something to watch on it, be it tv or a movie.
Very easy to useCons: I have it in bedroom so it's not use as much out in the living room so for now no cons i can see for me personally.

Summary: I've heard of this for a long time but never looked into it. I received this as a gift and i was surprised how much i use this machine i can hardly see because it takes up no space at all. All in all if you want to cut cable costs this thing is great.

Good by ridiculously high cable & dish subscriptions!
by 1Cheleste on March 27, 2012
Pros: Love the ease of finding a show we like. Love the shorter, or no commercials feature.
Love the small size and the ability to quickly/easily dissconnect from one t.v. and move the box to the other room, then reconnect and start watching.Cons: Some short commercials on Hulu plus. Netflix has to "load" sometimes, but I just get up and take a break or something...
Can't watch everything that's on right now on regular t.v. but that's what we wanted to get away from.Summary: We won't go back to straight cable or dish. This allows us much more to view.

Great value for your money
by tuongo on December 10, 2011
Pros: Easy to use, Compact, Reliable, Good picture quality, Great value, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to set up
Cons: Version 2 doesn't have component (only HDMI and composite).

Summary: I've replaced cable TV with Roku - couldn't be happier (with both money I'm saving and content I'm consuming). This is an extremely affordable solution that pays for itself within the first month of ownership. 1080p content is limited, so there's no real point in anything over 720p. Content owners are still on the fence about digital media; so some programs may not be available, yet. Perfect solution if you aren't interested in live TV (award shows, sports, local news, etc) and local content (e.g., downloaded media). I've bought 3 boxes so far; and recommend it to all friends and family

it's good but overrated by cnet
by venus537 on December 3, 2011

Summary: vudu is a much better alternative than amazon for movies and if you're into TV shows then hulu plus is a better alternative than amazon especially price wise since with hulu plus you pay an affordable monthly fee. Lacking you tube is another significant shortcoming, it's not even available as a private channel anymore. But hey, it has cnet.
if you don't care about getting blu-ray like picture quality and true 5.1 audio (vudu) then go with an apple tv. It has much better build quality and though it lacks the so called "robust" content of roku the content it has isn't so useless. -
Horrible Connectivity. Bad hardware/software
by RBharol on November 23, 2011

I am a tech guy myself so I can assure you, I did whatever I could do to make it work.
Here is what happened.
I opened the box, connected as suggested by documentation. It connected to my WiFi, downloaded new software. Downloaded Angry birds and It was working. I even saw a channel. Felt good. Then the problem started. I started browsing the channel store and it suddenly started giving a message saying "Checking for Updates" It stayed there for long time with no option to get out of this situation. Anyways, I waited. It then complained about network connection. I went to settings and connected again, it said connection is OK. I went to channel store again and again the same situation. After making sure internet is not the problem, when I saw the same issue again and again, I decided to restore the box to factory defaults by going to settings and choosing to reset it, hoping that might help.
*IT JUST DIED*.
Now it boots and gets stuck at a screen which says.. "Set up is three easy steps... Press OK to continue". It does not take OK input and stays there forever! HUNG! No matter how many times I power cycle it! -
A content oriented Machine!!!
by X-sync on November 16, 2011
Pros: More content available than Apple TV for now.
Cons: It has no integrity with all of my software I use, which Apple TV does.
Summary: It looks good for anyone using Roku HD alone for features and content availability. I can, however, use my iPhone and Macbook Pro to stream just about everything including Hulu ...

i give it a toss up
by stenchofpig on November 9, 2011
Pros: content aplenty
Cons: poor connectivity via hdmi, too many reintializing issues and Roku's forum is proof of that. A green screen issue has existed and never been resolved by Roku. Many buyers can get their hdmi cables to work problem free with two or more devices .... but not
Summary: When you purchase any product you expect to enjoy it with ease of use and performance to match. Better customer support and functionality from product.

Can't hold wireless connection....
by cwhite on November 7, 2011
