Fantastic Product
by delmastrom on October 2, 2011
Pros: Everything!
Cons: There simply is nothing I can criticize on this product.
Summary: Dropped our cable tv service for the cheaper Netflix via Roku, which is a fabulous device. Be sure to have a newer router to ensure faster streaming.

A Streaming Dream
by myspark1 on September 24, 2011
Pros: 1080P resolution; 5.1 audio; HDMI out for routing to receiver, so you can finally listen to NetFlix, Amazon, Epix, etc. in real surround - and apply your receiver's surround processing modes; separates the chores - you're no longer asking your TV and its
Cons: No backlighting whatsoever on remote is a huge oversight, no matter what the cost is, given this device's intended use; if we have NetFlix and Amazon and HuluPlus and 1080P and 5.1 at a good bitrate, where the heck is wonderful VUDU quality VOD? - this is

Summary: I am struggling with being part of the death of physical media, but with our cable package and its VOD, DVD/Bluray collection and now the Roku streaming in fantastic video and audio presentation, I just don't know if I need to support the manifestly greedy and stupid "Qwikster" decision. I mean, just how much more content do I need before I become permanently fused to my sectional? The remote needs backlighting - I am hoping to find a way to do this through my Harmony - and the exclusion of the very, very high-quality VUDU service is curious and off-putting; but other than that, this is my best hardware purchase since the OPPO. I'll never go back. If you're reading this and have the very modest means and equipment to purchase and use this, don't hesitate any longer.

by Dr. Zoltar on September 23, 2011

Summary: After getting this device and hooking it up, discovered that there is an issue with the Roku 2 XS and some HD TV sets. I own an Insignia NS-L42Q120 and discovered via Roku's own forums that two other users have experienced the same issue - no sound being produced via the HDMI cable. Routing it using their A/V cable through my receiver did me no good as then the audio tracking was off. This issue does not exist with the first gen Roku devices. As of now there is no fix or work around so I'll have to return the unit. It's a shame as a really wanted to support this technology.

Have not be able to get it to work with my network yet
by architectonix on September 23, 2011
Pros: Work with my wireless network right out of the box.
Cons: Has not worked with my local area network since it did the initial firmware update. It randomly sees wireless networks but then drops them off the list of available networks.
Summary: I have not had the time to work on getting this to work. Definitely not as easy as an Apple TV.

This little box holds a lot.
by jfieldwall1 on September 23, 2011
Pros: Does everything it claims. The company is really service oriented. I called once and e-mailed once to ask simple questions. A new Roku arrived for each contact. I have never had any problem that would require a new box. Each item arrived in three days of
Cons: The program suppliers have to provide closed captioning option before I can enjoy them fully. This does not seem to be a limitation of Roku. I have to return the two unopened packages via FedEx.

Bought Roku 2 SX to get Netflix Closed Captions
by Propnut8 on September 23, 2011
Pros: Roku 2 SX works as good as all the previous models, I have had
all of them. Plus Angry Birds is fun and works fine.
Cons: Wanted Netflix streaming Closed Captions. But only 1698 are listed today! AND the worst part is that LESS than half of them
actually work. The Netflix user interface is awful. You have to click ELEVEN times to turn on CC and then most don't work !!

Summary: I have been a Netflix disk subscriber since day one. I bought the first Roku which was called the Netflix box on day one also.
Netflix used to deliver excellent service that improved over the years with faster and faster disk turn around. Then streaming titles became larger and larger. Now Netflix has turned a corner and is delivering less and less for your money.
Roku became a successful company because of Netflix. Now Netflix
is going to drag Roku down because of all the bad decisions
about pricing, splitting the 2 services and poorly designed and poorly implemented Closed Captions.
