The good: The Onkyo TX-NR609's extensive collection of built-in streaming apps makes it an excellent choice for buyers who don't need AirPlay compatibility. It also has six HDMI inputs, including a convenient front-panel input, and we appreciate Onkyo offering a Wi-Fi dongle for just $40. The TX-NR609's street price is also lower than that of any other midrange receiver.
The bad: There's no built-in AirPlay support, so the Onkyo TX-NR609 wouldn't be our top choice if you have an iOS device. It also doesn't sound quite as good as the Pioneer and Denon, especially using the automatic speaker calibration.
The bottom line: The Onkyo TX-NR609 has six HDMI inputs and lots of built-in streaming music services, but it lacks AirPlay and doesn't sound quite as good to our ears as some competitors.

Onkyo TX-NR609
by Drawband on January 8, 2012
Pros: Plays will with my Tv that is all I can say.
Cons: THE SUPPORT COULD NOT BE ANY WORSE. I have a PS3 and every time I go to use it withe the 609 I have to go back and forth from game to dvd button until it clears up.It is like I have to track it just like the old VCR's .
Summary: This unit should be plan B if you are going to buy a reciver. I whould look at some others first. I have call the company left my phone along ...
Summary: This unit should be plan B if you are going to buy a reciver. I whould look at some others first. I have call the company left my phone along with the problem. Been 4 days now no return. I call back 1/7/12. This time it would not let me leave a number. I put my phone on speaker and about 6 hours later it hung me up. No

worth the money, entry level audiophile starter
by lpmagic on November 29, 2011
Pros: Price was very good on black friday :) set up was easy and straight forward. The system sounds good, very crisp, I hear sounds from movies I have watched previously, that I did not hear before, and this is with the same speakers!!!
Cons: Now I have to go out and buy some serious speakers, as my old Onkyo "home theater in a box" speakers that came with my 500 series onkyo receiver, do simply not do this justice, I think? biggest con I can see is that the remote is junk, but who cares!

Summary: Great set up, the audessey mic does a fine job, and makes it easy, I now have the enviable job of becomming an audiophile to one dgree or another. from what i have read and heard this is a good first step in really hearing true sound, whatever that means. I'm planning on spending some time at my local Magnolia Hi-Fi to get some answers on what it really means and wht type of speakers to get, and how much I'm going to be out in doing so. I have some concerns about the network connectivity, I do not like 300 miles of cables throughout my living room, but thems the breaks. I have no interest in internet radio, pandora etc....so I think I will not even use the network ability, no loss though I can hook up any Mp3 player and it sounds great. If you do not know wht your doing with the speaker wire then READ about it, you need well shielded low gauge (I'm using 12) speaker wire for a unit like this, it really makes a difference, really. I have yet to set up my second room, but I get the feeling it will be pretty easy in the long run. So far so good!

Great as long as you never need service!
by dandf225 on September 10, 2011
Pros: I have always loved Onkyo's features & sound as long as it was at least the 600 or higher series. This new model is no exception, is great as long as it stays working.
Cons: The HDMI board went out within a week and warranty service has been horrible. Now they say the part isn't available. Also can't even get ahold of their parts & service on phone or by email. Going on two months without my receiver. :( This issue sounds
Summary: I think Onkyo needs to wake up and handle their service alot better or they will be loosing many long time loyal customers.

Amazing!!!!!!!
by kburnam on June 8, 2011
Pros: This receiver is AMAZING! I just upgraded from a 15 year old Sony receiver and this thing blows it out of the water. I've been researching receivers for the past couple of year but I finally decided on this one. It interacts with all of my devices perf
Cons: It doesn't have built in wireless. I think this should come standard now a days. Some static depending on what listening mode you're using.
Summary: Seriously, buy this thing. It will make all those different connections to your TV disappear and it sounds awesome.
