Great quality product for an extremely reasonable price

Pros: 1. Easy setup with plenty of hookups for major accessories (i.e. Game console, cable box, iphone/ipod)
2. A lot of power for not a lot of cash.
3. Follows Pioneer's history of great looking electronics
Cons: 1. iphone/ipod jack requires you to pop off the front plastic piece--wish the plastic piece stayed attached
2. on-screen display graphics for iphone/ipod looks like an old Packard Bell computer from the 80's early 90's.
Summary: Upgraded from an older SONY receiver and not only love the increased power for lower price, but have always loved the look and design of Pioneer's Electronics

With a ton of hookup options and included 3D processing, this receiver is great for those making the jump to the HDMI/Digital age and has enough to keep you current for the new 3D wave that's about to hit.

Very impressed so far, lot of options for low price

Pros: Only took about half an hour to install and another hour to program. Dont try to read the whole user manual like a book.... look up what you need as you need it and get to know it, great quality and awesome price.. ipod connectivity is nice
Cons: Plenty of options comes with plenty of details.... not really a problem, but there is a lot going on.
Summary: Must have for any low budget build. Excellent connectivity. Hooked up the satellite and xbox with full 5.1 surround and the to the projector to complete my home theater!!

Hook up way too complicated!

Pros: Power and appearance.
Cons: I spent 2 hours reading the instruction manual and decided to just return the unit. There are so many instructions about what may not work and additonal connections that may be required, that it just is not worth it.
Summary: I have an 8 year old Marantz that is now obsolete.
I thought that with the HDMI connections, I could just plug in and go. That is not the case! ...

I thought that with the HDMI connections, I could just plug in and go. That is not the case! The instructions call for seperate audio some times. I am going to try the denon AVR 591.
The Pioneer could be the best AVR ever, but if the hook up is beyound understanding it's junk.

complicated instructions

Pros: Can't say what I like about if because I am so intimidated by the instructions. Three pages just to descibe the remote. I'll take another read through the instructions but right now the choice is to return the unit.
Cons: Instructions are very complicated and poorly written. Can't get past them to see if I want to pull the unit out of the box.

Summary: I may have bought the wrong unit for what I need. I was hoping to be able to pull this out of the box, plug it in and enjoy it for Christmas. After reading the instructions, I saw that hooking this thing up is going to be a half-day long project. How could something as simple as hooking components to the back of a unit get so complicated. Maybe it is just the instruction book that is the problem but I did not dare disable the present system with a house full of guests on Christmas day. A couple of friends said, don't mess with it, take it back.
