The good: 7.1 channel AV receiver; four HDMI inputs; graphical user interface; analog video upconversion; audio return channel support; standby pass-through; 3D compatible.
The bad: Not our top pick for sound quality; requires $100 dock for iPod/iPhone connectivity; competitors offer more HDMI inputs; skimpy on extra features, such as traditional multiroom functionality and USB connectivity; dynamic range compression turned on by default.
The bottom line: Sony's midrange AV receiver improves on its predecessor with new HDMI features like standby pass-through and 3D compatibility, but it lacks a compelling reason to pick it over its competitors.

Great receiver really enjoy our flat screen even more.
by tigerscag on March 3, 2011
Pros: My HD satelite receiver, Toshiba 55" flat screen, a Sony S470 DVD player, all hooked up with the HDMI cable. Never had to program the remotes everything intgrated automatically even my Satelite remote. The Toshiba TV integrated like a Bravia.
Cons: None nice receiver for the price.

Summary: I really like the Sony STR DN1010 and have no negative remarks. I am not a major tech person but I found it easy to install and played with the remote and manual for a few hours and found the sounds fantastic.
Many sound features to choose from for viewing movies and then switch the sound for outstanding music.
Hooked up all speakers with ease: 4 SS-B1000, 2 SS-F6000, 1 SS-CN5000, and 1 SA-W2500. Filled my 36X24 room with booming clear sound.
For about 300.00 I can't complain and don't understand why there are negative reviews. It is exactly what was advertised. -
OK, but not great.

Pros: Easy setup, auto-calibration works pretty well.
Cons: GUI only available in HDMI, leaves older/non-HD hanging, manual not very clear.

Summary: Replaced my old Sony 5.1 system with this, and kind of wish my old system still worked. Setup was relatively easy, but the manual was confusing, and caused a couple of false starts on getting all of the speakers setup correctly since I am only running 5.1, not 7.1 yet. Also, the GUI was a big thing for me, but all of the reviews I have read, none said anything about it only working over the HDMI connection. I am still using an SD TV, and this was a little disappointing. I am getting HD, just have to wait til Tax time. Also, no S-video hookup, and connections can be kind of confusing.

Not on par with Sony Bravia family
by DanHilberman on October 29, 2010
Pros: Looks pretty, lots of connectors
Cons: No Internet capability for software updates, unlike my Sony Bravia TV and Blu-ray.

Summary: Does interact with other Bravia via HDMI, as advertised, but extremely slowly. User interface and manual are so confusing it took me several hours to get it integrated with above Sony Bravia products, all connected via HDMI and optical. Manual assumes owner is intimately familiar with all the "new" features and protocols and therefore knows exactly what is wanted, rather than offering a simple explanation of when feature occurs and is needed, e.g., digital media port.
