Outstanding mid range receiver for the price about $600

Pros: So many to list. Great menu system for setup. Being able to assign a particular video input to a specific audio input blew me away among other things. This unit is a bit lighter than amps I'm used to, but it packs a huge punch.
Cons: Not enough power goes to the rear surrounds, but the side surrounds make up for it.

Summary: The onscreen menu system is very nice. This receiver has a built in zone 2 amp, so you don't need an additional amp to run zone 2, which is a nice space saver. The automatic speaker setting device (YPAO) is fun to use. I like tweeking my own speakers to my specs, but it's really easy to use if you don't like monkeying around with the settings. I found it nice that inputs can be re-named to your liking. The Pure Direct option is great when watching a Blu Ray. It minimizes the circuitry to allow the Blu ray audio format to really blow you away. The models above this one have a bit more power (not much), but have a lot of obsolete inputs like s-video and others that would only be used if you were hooking up older equipment. I like the fact they kept in reserved for mainly newer HDMI products and cut back on the unnecessary inputs. As an owner of an older generation Yamaha amp (RX-V2095) I can confidently say that this receiver has exceeded my expectations and for a very fair price. Outstanding job Yamaha.
