The good: 7-channel, 120-watt A/V receiver; automated setup and room-tuning equalization; THX Select certification; generous proprietary surround-processing options; turntable input; three-zone/multiroom operation.
The bad: It's a full 17.1 inches deep; only two component-video inputs.
The bottom line: Yamaha's luxurious receiver scores well on the value, features, and sound-quality fronts, but its flexible surround processing clinched the deal for us.
Great receiver all around
Pros: Great power, style, flexibility. It hooked up to all my digital components (and I've got a LOT of them) without breaking a sweat. For audio purists, the pure direct option, coupled with a good stereo source will blow you away. Graphical EQ lets you pla
Cons: The remote and overall setup can be a little intimidating, but nothing too hard. Just be patient and read the manual.

Summary: This one fine sounding unit. I have heard things in Cds and DVDs that I have never heard before. SACDs and DVD audio sound superb. With all of its clean power, movies seem to explode in front and all around you. For the price you are not going to find better and frankly you will have to spend A LOT more money to get at best slightly better results.

$50,000 reciever=Yamaha Rx-v1500

Pros: Great sound, lots of conectivity

Summary: Let me put it this way, when the Hilfigers had a sound system built in their house, they utilized yamaha. (Mr. Hilfiger bought his system at the custom store I did, unfortanitly I did not have his money to spend). However, this is the best reciever you can buy for the money. Sound is amazing, all games, Counter striker, BF2, Halo, and all movies are transfered into my polk speakers instantly and with prestine sound. Component video is perfect, there are plenty of sound options, and the YPIO is simply the best in the industry, much better than pioneers. If you want a reciever you only go yamaha. However, the new yamaha rx-v4600 has 2 HDMI imputs, but otherwise is the same. I would have liked that feature for I have an HDMI DVD player, and am planning on purchasing PS3. (Blue Ray for $400.) A great system, but if it had been out yet I would have spent an extra $1000 for the HDMI

Summary: Better sound then my 'Yamaha RX-V520' I get a 'cleaner' sound, But I like the remote for my 'RX-V520' a lot better. The set-up is a bit hard, the nevagtion on the R/V display. The sound is Much better. Can't beat the price for what you get.
If you get it, it takes about 1/2hour to setup the R/V because the nevagtion is confuzzing, it is worth the little extra time to get it setup right.

Pros: Bang for the buck, reliable, robust, auto set-up, universal remote learns your other remotes easily
Cons: Remote has some keys printed in turquoise color - hard to see in any light, VCR signal deteriorates when passed thru Amplifier.

Summary: I bought this amplifier in March of 2005 and could not be happier (it has been 90 days). I have a Sony WEGA 60 inch HDTV and a Sony 5 disc DVD hooked up to this sytem. I have JBL 5.1 surround speaker system and sub-woofer.
I am not an audiophile and my main interest is in movie sound. I used the Yamaha automatic parametric acoustic (YAPO) to balance the speakers - takes about 5 minutes. If you have a 5.1 system (as opposed to a 7.1 system) try to locate the two rear speakers at least 1 to 2 feet behind your seating area.
So far I find that THX Cinema works best with newly released DVDs that are encoded in THX. I was impressed with Indiana Jones The Last Crusade. Earlier THX movies (e.g Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark) are not as impressive. Movies encoded in Dolby but not in THX seem to work best when I switch to 7 Channel Stereo. There is no rule here - just try out the different formats.
I was impressed at how quickly the Universal Reomte was able to "learn" the Sony DVD/ CD changer remote functions. There is a button that allows disc change and it works fine.

How about updating your product reviews?
by firstoff on May 3, 2011
Pros: Come on guys! Some of the product reviews are 6+ years old! I think A/V equipment has changed a little since 2005, how about refreshing the updates or, providing a "relevancy" filter?
Cons: Out of date reviews.
Summary: Update the equipment list.....please....looks like I'll have to use another site....

very poor service

Pros: it worked well for 13 months
Cons: the one service shop (300 mi round trip) closed. the shop did not repair the unit the last time. It worked for about another 3 months and died again and now I have a expensive hunk of junk.
