The good: Excellent sound quality; six HDMI inputs; best-in-class graphical user interface; analog video upconversion; audio return channel supported; standby pass-through; 7.1 multichannel analog inputs; 3D compatible; second-zone functionality.
The bad: Requires $100 dock for iPod/iPhone connectivity; no minijack input; more expensive than some competitors.

Like most of it but onscreen volume display is horrible
by pidderman on January 6, 2011
Pros: Great sound (as best as I can tell), good user interface, enough HDMI inputs for me, and I prefer the separate iPod dock over other approaches (e.g., cable thru front of Pioneer)
Cons: I really dislike the onscreen volume display. Completely distracting and gets in the way of video.
No ethernet or internet connectivity options.Summary: I've had this unit for a week now (to complement my plasma tv) and for the most part think it's great. But I think I will return it ...
Summary: I've had this unit for a week now (to complement my plasma tv) and for the most part think it's great. But I think I will return it because I really really dislike the onscreen volume display. It is completely distracting when watching HD tv or blu-ray. I spoke to Yamaha today and was told I was the second person to complain of that today. But unfortunately there is no way to turn it off nor does is sound like Yamaha is inclined to fix it via firmware (which of course, would be difficult without internet connectivity, as described by another user). I was told that the display was added because people requested it, which is fine, but I wish I had the option to turn it off. I had several people over last night to watch a hockey game and they all complained about the display. Ugh.
Otherwise I quite like the unit. And I prefer the external iPod dock that connects through the back rather than through the front. It was used extensively on New years Eve, swapping people's iPods in and out.
But really, the volume display is too annoying and I think I will have to return it.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I just wanna ask something to CNET: If Denon AVR-1911 sounds better than this one and better than the pioneer as well. my questions is this: Why in the world did you guys rate it "very good" and rates the other two "excellent"???? I know you will say feature but doesn't Denon have almost all of them as well. two HDMI less makes a product less? while had the best sound) which is the main job of the unit) why wasn't "excellent"? I am very curious. I am planning of buying Denon or Pioneer but the reviews here and the ratings are inconsistent in my eyes. Please help me understand

If this had network capability I'd be sold
by mjbg666 on September 30, 2010
Pros: Excellent specs
Cons: No wifi/network capability
Summary: This is not a review, but a comment. This receiver looks fantastic. The only feature keeping me from considering it is that it does not have networking wifi capability.
