  plain is good... COLORS are a problem

  Pros: Recently bought, same day/ staples, 2 pks of lightscribe memorex DVD-R. one plain gold lightscribe discs, one pack "colors" discs. the golden version works fine, BUT.. the colors I was unable to BURN, while I was able to label the lightscribe side.

  Cons: COLORS lightscribe disks not functional for burning data. They did take lightscribe label, but not with much contrast. BUT w/o ability to BURN data side, they are custom made coasters. I tried COLOR DVDs with labels and some blank on both sides.

  I was using a 12x fairly new, always reliable LaCie DVD burner, that had no problem burning the label sides on either style. I have the most recent burner software installed as well.
  
  Good news... I was able to find both, for $9.95 per 20 pk at Staples. So that is about 50 cents per disc,... before you adjust your math for UNUSABLE discs, of course.
  
  The plain golden "original" style lightscribe, better contrast than with the colors, and able to actually burn the data as desired, both on double blank sided virgin discs, and those that I labeled first before burning data.
