  Summary: Here?s a nice idea! You know all those photos you?ve taken over the years and how you?ve carefully backed them all up on your hard drive or an external drive or copied them to a CD-ROM? Well, those media may well not last as long as you think. Here?s the way to preserve them for your lifetime or more.
  
  Verbatim has come up with a great way to save your pictures on DVD. They provide a DVD disc that has software already loaded on it that can locate and copy all your photos to that DVD. It?s effortless and provides a secure way to back up your precious assets.
  
  There are a couple of problems. One is that you only have one shot at the ?locate and save? action. You are given three choices of places to look for photos: Auto copy (you specify the disks to scan), camera or memory card and Manual copy. If you select Auto copy, the software scans the disks you have selected and tallies the pictures it found. In my case the software found 2.24 GB of files.
  
  When you click Record, the software transfers a copy of the files it found to a DVD-R disk. Then you click Finish to eject the disk for safekeeping.
  
  A second problem is that in spite of the brief instruction sheet statement that you can ?store multiple times until the disc is full,? I could not get this to work. When I reinserted the DVD disk, I get a message that the disk is ?closed, containing one recording.? There seems to be no way around this.
  
  In any event, you can record all your files from one computer on a disk. The Verbatim package contains three PhotoSaveDVD disks, so you can save from up to three computers, which should be enough to fill your needs. A slightly larger product is also available with 5 disks.
  
  Only .jpg files are identified in the scan and are saved.
  
  The product is easy to use and fulfills a need that everyone has these days.

  It works! A no-brainer way to backup photos. Buy it.

  Pros: I put in the DVD and the software opened right away. I used the Manual method to add a folder, and then later to add the folder again with more photos in it. NO PROBLEMS.

  Cons: Using the "Auto Copy from:" option only gave me a choice of My Pictures or the entire "C" drive. I could not specify any other folders. I could not specify a folder from within My Documents.

  Summary: 1. The first thing that I noticed was that the Verbatim PhotoSave dialog box (window) did not open large enough. It was wide enough, but not tall enough. Text lines overlapped and white space overlapped on top of text and I could not read the text. I able to make the window larger by grabbing the corner and then all of the text and white space aligned properly. This happened every time I launched the software.
  
  2. When I inserted a SD card into the slot on my laptop, it immediately came up as a choice in the "Camera or Memory Copy from:". (There is a spelling error in the Verbatim window. I think it should say Camera or Memroy "Card", not Memory Copy.
  
  3. After adding photos, When I used the manual option, the disk was automatically ejected after the burning was completed. It did not give my any opportunity to add more photos at that time.
  
  4. Using the manual method, I added a folder which had sub folders in it. The file structure (nesting) was maintained on the disk just fine.
  
  5. I put 800Meg of photos, contained in 10 folders, on the disk in the first burn. Then, I added one photo to one folder and burned again. It appears to me that only the new photo was added to the disk and not the entire 800Meg over again.
  
  6. In the original 800 meg, folder one contained 20 photos. I removed one of the photos from the folder on the hard drive, and added that folder to the disk again. The photo was NOT removed from the disk. The folder still contained the original 20 photos. I added a new photo to the folder on the hard drive. It now contains 20 photos again. I added the folder to the disk. The folder on the disk now contains 21 photos.

  Automatically burn a DVD

  The PhotoSaveDVD software will automatically set up the use of multiple discs

  Cons: In Automatic mode only JPEG files are found

  Summary: The Verbatim PhotoSaveDVD is a recordable disc for automatically finding and saving your pictures and videos from your camera or PC, easily, simply and quickly. The DVD contains self-starting software to find the pictures and automatically burn them on the DVD, just pop the DVD into the PC (Sorry, no MAC yet), choose automatic or manual, and it?s done. The PC must have a DVD writer, not a CD writer and it must be a DVD-R, not a DVD+R. Every PhotoSaveDVD has the burning software pre-installed and it is not installed on the PC. It cannot be copied onto a blank DVD.
  
  In the Automatic mode and the pictures are on already on the PC, the software will find them and burn them automatically. Simple and quick. No launching of DVD burning software, no searching for the files and moving them to the software window. One small disadvantage, in the Automatic mode only pictures with the JPEG extension can be found. Most cameras save the pictures in JPEG format. One BIG disadvantage. When the Automatic mode is chosen, the DVD is closed after the pictures are burned and no additional pictures can be added. The full capacity of the DVD is not used.
  
  Your other choice is Manual, in which you can connect the camera or insert a memory card into the PC or choose the pictures or videos on the PC that you want to burn on the DVD. In the Manual mode, over 40 types of picture files and over 50 types of video files can be found .Another benefit of the Manual mode is that the DVD remains unclosed (if that?s a proper word) so that additional pictures can be burned later on. Most burning software automatically closes the DVD and prevents the addition of files. The advantage of having the DVD open is that the full capacity of the DVD can be utilized, 4.5GB (2000 + pictures at 2MB a picture). If you are saving a lot of pictures or videos that are enormous in size, the PhotoSaveDVD software will advise that the files exceed a DVD capacity and will automatically set up the use of multiple discs. PhotoSaveDVDs must be used for the additional discs.
  
  Verbatim PhotoSaveDVD is an extremely useful tool for those of us who are not comfortable with working with DVD burning software or selecting, moving, and copying files.
