Summary: The Oppo BDP-93 is by far the best blu-ray player on the market today. No other player can match its ability to up convert standard DVD to high definition quality. And with the added bonus of Netflix streaming, I believe it is a must-have for anyone looking for a high-end blu-ray player at a reasonable price.
On June 10, 2011, Oppo released its latest public beta firmware update (BDP9x-50-0608), which includes an update to Netflix (now ver. 2.1) and the addition of the Vudu movie streaming service, among other updates. More than ever, the BDP-93 is the blu-ray player of choice for audiophiles.

Absolutely fantastic universal player.
by Goeringer on May 17, 2011
Pros: Universal player with great audio and video -- not just a 3D Blu-ray.
Cons: Which is streamed Pandora.

Summary: So many of the reviews of the BDP-93 are focused on features -- and there are so many great features. However, I think Oppo's well deserved reputation leaves people understating some of the most important factors. The BDP-93 is simply a fantastic universal player! The codecs leave simply fantastic images for both DVD and Blu-ray sources, and the the sound is simply superb! The audiophile grade BDP-93 and the BDP-95 take this a step further, of course, but the basic BDP-93 is no slouch!

Best value for the dollar

Pros: Great picture and sound. Two count em two HDMI outs!, Build quality!, comes with wireless dongle in the box. 7.1 analog out.
Cons: None at this point.

Summary: This is the way to go if you want great sound and great lossless sound and don't want to upgrade your AVR too. An earlier review said it is wireless ready and you have to buy a wireless "dongle" NOT TRUE it comes in the box with the unit. 500 bucks might sound like a lot to pay for a blu ray player but you will not regret it. Great customer service and a great product. Can't say that about to many companies these days. Just buy it and you won't regret it.

If I could give this product six stars, I would
by HenryCase on April 4, 2011
Pros: 1. plays blu-ray with better audio and video quality than a ps3.
2. plays SACD and DVD-Audio disks better than far more expensive SACD and DVD-Audio players.
3. 7.1 analog out means you can use it with older AV receivers.Cons: for this price, none.
Summary: I was very happy with the Oppo93's performance playing blu-ray disks. Sound and video quality are excellent. However, I was stunned to hear SACD disks. My system never sounded ...
Summary: I was very happy with the Oppo93's performance playing blu-ray disks. Sound and video quality are excellent. However, I was stunned to hear SACD disks. My system never sounded so good. If you want to hear audio on your home theater, the Oppo93 is the way to go. I've got a 500M disk drive hooked up to my Oppo93 and I've been loading it with FLAC versions of my cd collection. It's been like rediscovering my music collection.

Excellant player, with a few minor problems
by norvabear on March 12, 2011
Pros: Excellant disc playback. Very good 3-d playback

Summary: The Oppo is a breeze to set up and it plays back both DVD's and blu-ray discs with ease. 3-D playback is excellant. I have found that the dark areas of different films show a lot of details that my previous blu-ray players have not had. The remote is very easy to use and the buttons are laid out pretty well. My main complaint is that the handshake between the Oppo, my received(Pioneer VSX-1020K) and my TV(Sony XBR-52HX909) is not very well handled. The picture keeps dropping out every now and then. Oppo had me update the firmware of the player, but it really didn't help much. Hopefully a future update will fix the problem.
Per a suggestion from someone on highdefdigest.com, I tried connecting the player to my system using both HDMI outputs, one for the video and one for the audio, and bingo, no dropouts.

Summary: While I am considering upgarding to the BDP-95 in order to have the better sound quality, the mix of features and quality on this unit at this price is simply astounding. It is far better than several higher priced players that I own.
