The good: Excellent Blu-ray image quality; Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, and Pandora media streaming, plus the expandable Samsung Apps platform; built-in Wi-Fi; 7.1 analog audio outputs; 1GB onboard storage.
The bad: Sluggish operational speed; competing Sony players offer 3D for about the same price; last year's Samsung Blu-ray players had questionable reliability.
The bottom line: Samsung's BD-C6500 Blu-ray player has excellent image quality, outstanding features for the price, and a slick design--we just wish it were a little faster.

Great Player!
by CraigRenner on February 7, 2011
Pros: + Quick load time
+ Nice online programs (mainly Netflix and Pandora)
+ Supports UPnP Media player
+ The remote layout is nice.
+ The internet access is fine as is the Netflix interface and playback.Cons: - Flickering issue when first turn on
- Netflix works fine but it's slightly slower than my XBox360 in establishing Netflix connection.Summary: I have this player for over 2 weeks now. I got it at hhgreg the first day they got it. So far: AWESOME.

Blu-Ray: Very fast loading time. Picture and sound are awesome.
DVD: I had very good upscale player before this one and this one is much better.
Wireless Network Connection: Literally it took 60 seconds to set everything up.
I just had to click "next" few times.
I have Motorola Wireles g modem (Comcast). Only asked me first time for WEP.
Never again.
Sharing files with your computer: I am a mac user and i got it to work with the Eyeconnect media server.
If you are PC user you can download Allshare from Samsung for free.
Netflix looks great. No hiccups and HD quality is AWESOME.
Pandora to.
Blockbuster is there but I haven;t tried it yet. To be honest i don't think i will ever try it.
They just updated the apps section with the VUDU app. When you open it there is a message that it will go live in March(what is pretty soon).
Youtube and Picasa are pretty cool to.
There are few games in the apps section that are pretty basic.
LOVE the player. I think it is a much more than just a blu-ray player.
I think most of the complains in the reviews are user or equipment(old router) errors to be honest.
There is only one thing that kind of annoys me. From the description of the player on the Samsung website, amazon etc, i got the idea that there is a lot more apps in the Samsung Apps store/section(facebook, twitter, google maps etc).
None of them are there (yet). Even in the manual they used google maps as an example. Maybe they will add this stuff with the time.

Good But Has Bugs
by mudge37 on June 2, 2010
Pros: Excellent picture and sound quality, reasonably fast startup, variety of WiFi services available, attractive appearance
Cons: Operational glitches, major setup problems, Netflix activation issues, mistakes in manual -- Samsung support is worst in the business

Summary: Setting up this unit in the first place is a nightmare, especially the WiFi setup. I bought it from Crutchfield, and it took two of their technicians two hours on the phone to figure out the setup. Samsung's error-ridden website was no help, nor were the idiots on their phones. The Users Manual contains errors, including whole pages that do not match the on-screen setup display.
The Blu-ray disc of "Avatar" would not play on this machine. After Samsung's tech help offered no answers (and some incorrect "solutions"), it took me an hour to find the simple workaround (hold down the fast forward bitton for three minutes).
Netflix movies come through very well (virtually HD quality), BUT you will probably need to re-activate Netflix each time because activation doesn't stick. Netflix reps told me on the phone that this is a Samsung glitch. Netflix is trying to work with Samsung to fix it, but don't hold your breath because Samsung doesn't back up products once they are sold. Samsung reps blame the problem on you or on Netflix.
Access to Pandora was one reason I bought this Samsung player. I should have waited. Sony has just released, for the same price, a Blu-ray player with all the features that this buggy Samsung unit has (including wireless connection to Netflix and Pandora) and probably none of the glitches.
Though this player is very good once you work around or learn to live with the glitches, the bottom line is that my experience with the Samsung organization and their inability or unwillingness to address product usage issues have been sufficient to convince me never to purchase a Samsung product again if I can find something comparable from a competitor.
By the way, I am not a novice. I have owned, hooked up, and operated component A/V systems for more than forty years.9 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Wifi doesn't work & Horrid customer service
by SoCalUser on May 1, 2010
Pros: Very good DVD player. Good looking design of box.
Cons: After 4 calls to customer service over a month, will not connect to internet. Requires firmware upgrade from samsung web site, but web site is not operational to provide upgrade. Will not play DVDs without unavailable upgrade.

Summary: Bought for wifi wireless access. Unit passes all on board network connectivity tests. Called customer service 4 times and they read the manual to me, repeatedly. Have tried multiple options to fix, and each time they send me back to customer service to restart the process. Note: Customer service only is open until 530 Pacific time, which makes it almost impossile to contact during the week. But they close each trouble ticket with a maximum of 48 hours open. Then you start over with customer service the next Saturday. So far its been claimed that the Samsung internet service computer is down (which is needed to access the internet related options through the player), and then that I need a firmware upgrade. There is no way to check on the server status unless you get to level 2 support, and half the people there don't know what that means. And to get the firmware update, which is supposed to be available wirelessly from the internet, Customer Service says is available on their web page. However, in 2 days of trying the Samsung web page gives "page not available" for the firmware upgrade nor the instructions on how to do it... And there is no way to contact them on the web page (the email link is also broken...) Without the upgrade the machine only plays about 1 in 4 Blu Ray DVDs. So basically the machine which was supposed to a) play Blu Ray discs, and doesn't, and b) was supposed to have internet connectivity via wifi, and doesn't provide that either.
In good news, its a very good DVD movie player. But then, that's not what I bought it for... Strongly recommend looking at another product to purchase. Have spent approximately 40 hours over 4 weeks trying to get this working including escalating this to "level 3 support" which (so far) hasn't bothered to call me back.7 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

dvd playback mediocre, Internet@TV is aweful
by afwife10 on January 6, 2011
Pros: Sleek design looks great in my entertainment center, wireless router is nice but when it comes to actually using internet features...
Cons: ... Internet@TV is a joke. Setting up Apps was a nightmare. Netflix app didn't work straight out of the box. Instruction manual was badly written. remote keypad was hard to use. Has trouble with DVD menus and sometimes skips on DVD chapter changes.

Summary: If you are thinking about buying this Blu-Ray player because it has good CNET ratings as well as apps and a built in wireless router, don't. Internet@TV is aweful. The instructions in the manual and on Samsung's website are subpar. They we not specific and in some cases, they omitted steps or were just plain wrong. Once i finally figured out what I needed to do to manage apps, the samsung website would not let me complete the process because of a broken webpage. I can't load my Pandora account onto the player and the Netflix app (which is what i really wanted) had an "update failure" straight out of the box, and it didn't show up on App management window, so I can't fix it. This Blu-Ray player is also an upconvert dvd player, which is nice, but it doesn't work that well. It has trouble with dvd menus (selects when I'm using arrow keys, plays special features that weren't selected, very sluggish) and on some dvd's, playback hesitates on chapter changes. I'm sure the Blu-Ray picture quality is great, but you can get great picture quality without paying $200. Hope that helps.
Let me tell ya, this player is a beast to set up. The instruction manual is just plain wrong on several subjects about setting up apps, and the website was even more confusing. However, once I got it set up, it has been running well, though it is sluggish. We run lots of media including tv shows, movies and audiobooks from the usb port. You can use a thumb drive or a powered external hard drive, and the playback is great. Once I figured out how, Netflix and Pandora are working great for me. My favorite feature is the DVD upconvert feature. Most of our movie library is DVD and we are pleased with the picture quality on our 1080p tv from our DVDs. The player does get a bit confused navigating DVD menus sometimes though. It'll start playing the movie instead of going to features or select the wrong feature sometimes, but don't click too many buttons too fast and it's manageable. Anywho, the playback is great which is what really counts.
Updated on Feb 28, 2011
Updated on Feb 28, 2011One second review, once you get past the nightmare of setting it up, I have to admit the apps are pretty cool though a bit limited. I regularly use the Netflix, Pandora and YouTube apps. Also, playing media through the usb port is simple. We attached a self powered external hard drive and it plays everything from tv shows and movies to music and audiobooks well.
While the player remains sluggish overall, we really like the quality of the playback on our DVDs. This player is a DVD upconverter and if most of your movie library is DVD like ours is you will appreciate this feature too. The only hangup there is that the player gets confused with DVD menus sometimes. Occasionally it will select the wrong option on DVD menus and start playing from random places on my DVDs but it's not a serious hindrance.
I saw this player for $118 from Walmart the other day which I think is a fair price since it has built in wifi and DVD upconvert. If you can handle the setup nightmare, it's a good player.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I had this system for 4 months until it broke down. I was on the phone with customer service who were convinced it was my television until I sent it into them through Best Buy. The result was a $120.00 repair job due to a defective part. My recommendation, is like many other reviewers here, stay away from this product. If you like Samsung then I strongly suggest looking into another product. The reason for writing this review is to save you the time and money. Had I read the comments on this product before I made my purchase, I would not have bought it.

Best streaming Blueray....
by Tucscot on September 10, 2010
Pros: Oustanding picture quality! Easy to setup wireless streaming. Comes pre-loaded with Apps, Netflix, VUDU, Pandora and many more.
Best value available today.Cons: The load time is a little slow, 10-15 seconds but other than that, absolutely nothing.
Summary: I purchased a Sony S360 and the Samsung at the same time for different rooms. I wanted one for streaming, the other just being standard.

Just for fun, I hooked each unit up to a different HD TV and the picture quality from the Samsung was superior. I tested this with four different Blueray movies each as well as standard DVD's. What was particularly evident was the way that the Samsung improved the clarity on some of my older DVD's, while the Sony did not.
I have read some of the other postings about the connectivity problems associated with this player. But I found this not to be the case at all! Simply follow the directions.
I am using a D-Link 655 router (after testing 3 others) due to its better area coverage. And here is a HINT for those of you who are not techies.
If you have any problems connecting wirelessly open your router software to where it gives you the ability to add a device, begin the Samsung setup and when it asks for a PIN, instead of using that take advantage of the one button PBC (WPS) setup. Push one button on the setup and then push one button from your router software and they are connected!
The apps on this unit are terrific. The Samsung unit is approximately 90 feet from the router and shows a signal quality of 8 out of 10 when streaming Netflix. No loss of signal or degraded picture quality. This goes for VUDU, Pandora, Weather and the rest.
I must admit that in the past I have been a fan of just Sony and Pansonic devices. This new Samsung BD player has certainly changed that.
For the price, this is the best BD player available!4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: In my opinion this is the BEST Blu-ray player out there for the money! Very, very happy! Honestly I only bought this because I could connect to Netflix and watch streaming movies on my tv. The sales rep at Comp USA showed me this model and told me it was not just wifi ready it was ready to go right out of the box. So after I hooked it up (a few minutes) I quickly found out it was way more awesome than I knew. After all, I only bought it for one reason. It exceeded my expectations.

Does not support WPA2 encryption!! GREAT once fixed!!
by ZG1967 on January 17, 2011
Pros: 1) Excellent blu-ray video and audio
2) Large app selection.
3) Pandora, Netflix all setup within minutes and work flawlessly.
4) Boot time for a disc (<10 sec) and streaming Netflix (<30 sec).
5) Functional remote.
6) Sleek piano black console.Cons: 1) Will not work with WPA2 and/or TKI encryption!
2) Diagnostic messages and setup not clear.
3) Fix: Set router to WPA, change password to < 10 char all numeric, reset player by pressing stop for 5 sec, update firmware, auto connect to network.Summary: Does not support WPA2 encryption!! but GREAT once fixed!!

Wifi connection issues are well known with this unit (Google it). After much research and many iterations, this worked for me.
1) Disable your router encryption (no worries only temporary).
2) Change your network password to all numeric and < 10 characters.
3) Reset the blu-ray player by pressing and holding the stop button on the console 5 seconds (note this will lose other settings, passwords, etc. if you have had partial functionality).
4) Update to latest firmware on the blu-ray player (under Settings, Support).
5) Set your router to WPA encryption (NOT WPA2! - WPA2 is not supported for now and this is the root cause). AES is OK but do NOT allow TKI (not supported for now either)! (Samsung and all sellers should flag the lack of WPA2 support)
6) Go to the Settings menu and select Network.
7) Follow the prompts for Auto setup and select your network (Samsung calls it Access Point).
8) Enter the network password created in step #2 when prompted.
9) You should be connected in a minute or so and see the red WiFi symbol on the console display!
Now the good stuff!
1) Once connected, this player is outstanding!
2) Excellent blu-ray video and audio.
3) Pandora, Netflix all setup within minutes and work flawlessly.
4) I am amazed at the boot time for a disc (<10 sec) and streaming Netflix (<30 sec and you are watching a movie).
5) The streaming video and audio quality impressed me - very close to that of a disc.
6) The menu skins are modern and Pandora is flat out addictive!
7) The remote, while not the prettiest, is very functional with large tactile buttons logically organized.
8) The player itself with black piano finish and touch sensitive console buttons looks classy and sleek.
All in all, highly recommended once the wi-fi problem solved!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: My wife bought me the 6500 for Christmas. Setup was easy and received immediate firmware update from Samsung. Unit does a great job playing DVD; my Lord of the Rings DVDs look and sound great. Had major problems watching Inception on Blu-ray. The audio track kept going out of sync with the video, lagging as much as 2 seconds. I have an older receiver and am current using the Optical Out with Bitstream Re-encode. I might try switching to 7.1 analog to see if this helps. I need to also try a few other Blu-ray disks. If the problem continues I will return the unit.
After using this unit for 2 weeks I returned today for the following reason(s). This player has horrible audio sync issues. Watching Inception on Blu-ray using the 5.1 optical out and the audio track kept lagging behind the video by as much as two seconds. Stopping and restarting the movie solved the problem temporarily, but within five minutes the audio was lagging again. I tried using the 7.1 analog outs, I have an older A/V receiver, and the lag problem worsened significantly. Within one minute the audio track was lagging a full five seconds behind the video. I really wanted to like this player, the picture quality is great, but audio problems are a total deal-breaker. I bought a Panasonic DMP-BD85K today, hooked up the 7.1 analog audio and watched my Inception Blu-Ray disk and guess what? No audio sync/lag issues whatsoever. Sorry Samsung, perhaps you can learn a lesson from Panasonic.

Avoid if you really want to use the wifi feature

Pros: beautiful navigation layout and nice internet features, good picture quality and works nicely with a samsung tv
Cons: can not hold a wireless connection at all. So what good is the PROs then? Samsungs response to this , put the player next to your router, hmm, defeats the purpose of having a wireless connection don't you think?
