Summary: I bought this blue ray player primarily for streaming (Hulu & Netflix). This Blue Ray player was clearly not built for internet streaming. I've had consistent internet connection issues when connecting The Blue Ray player - it states that there are network interferences. It will work for a week and then suddenly won't connect. After doing research online there are THOUSANDS of other customers having the exact same issue with this model. We have troubleshooted everything including our internet (which we upped the speed on) and our modem (which we purchased a new one) and we have concluded this model of Samsung Blue Ray player is a total piece of crap. Very disappointed that Samsung would make such a crappy product & not offer any real solutions to frustrated customers.

Bottom-line - just an ok player
by pisau3 on August 22, 2011
Pros: Image is good
setup is easy
interface is clean
connectivity is adequateCons: Limited subtitle capability in file mode (poorly documented in manual, figuring out by trial and error), have not been able to play idx/sub format, embedded subtitles (mkv) or srt files that have a slightly different file name than the movie file (i.e. fo

Summary: Reading at the feedback from the Samsung guy on the forum, it seems like the solution is to re-encoding the files to a format that is supported by the player. If the player is not flexible enough to support the more recent standards used in today's multimedia, I'm wondering if I would not be better off dedicating an old PC as my multimedia player (BD, DVD, MP3, etc.) which offers almost limitless possibilities.

I bought this just to play movies from BD & ext HD.
by Yan_Borja on May 14, 2012
Pros: Reasonable price and delivers amazing sound and video.
Cons: Slow internet connectivity and streaming. Remote control response is not that fast (but compare to other brand on the same price point, this is okay). Probably after a few firmware updates, Samsung will fix these issues,
Summary: Overall, this is an impressive media player (BD, DVD, & Portable HDD). I know that there are some few issues but i know that Samsung can easily fix those.

Simply superb! Menus slightly slow but superb quality
by msmicksmith on December 31, 2011
Pros: Superb video and sound.
Smart Hub online content is one of the best around.
Price.Cons: Slightly clunky menu operation, but for under £100 what do you expect?

Summary: I have a Samsung 51" Plasma TV and the image quality from this BD player is stunning. I also only have a Technics stack system hifi unit with subwoofer and technics speakers, but again, compared to normal DVD sound, it's like sitting in the cinema!
It streams HQ content from BBC iPlayer perfectly. Downloads updates and films effortlessly and quickly.
Disc load times are very quick too.
If you want a BD player, for under £100, with superb image and sound, excellent features and internet connectivity, this is a superb choice. -
It's a great Blue Ray Player. It's not a computor
by MrCrew33 on December 18, 2011
Pros: Produces great BR video and up-converts regular dvds nicely as well.
Cons: NO issues with player itself.
Summary: I bought this unit to watch BR movies from a disc. Not surf the web. So yes it does what a blue ray player should do. Play movies. It does ...

The jury is out.
by Coldboots on December 10, 2011
Pros: Cheap, is being updated, the network firmware updates have helped in a big way,
Seems to do what they say it will do so far. If it blows up who cares:-) cause I bought it for cheap as an open box and it will not be on the store shelves again.Cons: The dlna.org profile is a beast to configure for a server. It does not seem to work with server streaming lpcm, m4v, or mp4 as advertised. Will take time to debug. No decent real pc server software available from Samsung. Youtube interface is useless

Summary: A really good buy for those who get the store clearouts. It will not be on the shelves in the box stores again. Because it is the D series it is still receiving updates for the firmware. However how long this incredible turn of events from Samsung in regards to actually updating their firmware will last is anybodies guess.
I purchased a samsung C series LED UNC405000 Busy-box linux firmware based
television last year and they seem to have discontinued updating the firmware already. There is a serious bug in the C series firmware, so not responding to this is an indication that Samsung just wants to push product out the door and ignores the needs of their previous customers.
Time will tell if this product is really what it is cracked up to be. But judging from the past history of how Samsung treats DLNA enabled firmware devices and how poorly they document access to these features I do not think that their endeavours with D series are actually done in the spirit of what the much vaunted Digital Living Network Alliance especially if streaming content from a device other than one sold by Samsung is such a hassle! Be aware that even though they advertise that these devices are compatible with streaming WMA, AAC, WMV, M4V, DVIX, PCM, MP3, MKV, AVI.
The Allshare implementation will not work seamlessly with Windows Media Player DLNA.
The reason for this is that the DLNA profile of the device has been so obscured that it is very hard for software writers to enable. So if you expect to stream all content from your laptop to this device be prepared to be disappointed. I am currently helping debug the method request for this DLNA implementation for a great up an coming free java based content server called Serviio from serviio.org. We are finding that reality of DLNA with Samsung and other company's devices has become a moving target not a standard to allow content to be seen across platforms!
Be prepared to do some home work if you want to use this device as advertised. -
You Get What You Pay For - Crap
by chappa-ai on November 21, 2011
Pros: Actually does play Blu-ray discs.
Cons: Forward and reverse scanning perform like a runaway train with no brake. No out-of-the-box internet capability - requires separate purchase.

Summary: This is my first Blu-ray player and although it actually does play discs, you can totally forget about using a remote to back up for repeating something or scan forward. Why? Because if you attempt to do this, the player adopts a mind of its own and zips through to the beginning (or end) of the disc, ignoring attempts to resume normal play mode. If I had tested this functionality (or lack thereof) before buying the unit, I would have gotten a different player. This one's functions are crap compared to the Sony DVD player it replaced.

Good machine (at price) after the SW Upgrade.
by ARM-Linux_CEO on October 10, 2011
Pros: Inexpensive, expandable with apps, Ethernet port, low low-price for quality & features
Cons: slow response to some commands, optional wifi dongle is expensive!

Summary: I was surprised at all the capabilities of this machine, especially considering the price (sub $100 @ Visions Electronics). I've loaded several APPs already. It works well on Net-Flix. You Tube crashes (and it only responds to the power-button on the remote). The Picasa APP lets you view a slide-show of the most popular photos, and it makes your large screen TV a stunning backdrop for gatherings. BBC News is great.
The machine takes a long time to boot (on power-up) but not too long when you consider that its a Linux computer.
The SDK (for developing APPs) looks interesting too....
There are some clunky elements in the UI (can't back up one level, Return jumps back to main level in some places), and an optional QWERTY remote would be great (there is one, but only works on higher-end units with BlueTooth, and its $175 on Samsung's site). But as a Blu-Ray and Net-Flix player, its an amazing deal for the price. And the integration with Samsung TVs makes operation even simpler.
