Outstanding picture and sound!
by andrewbaggins on June 1, 2011
Pros: Excellent picture and sound. Regular DVDs are upsampled to a high standard and Blu-ray discs are simply terrific. Compared it to a Samsung and a Panasonic model around same price and the Sony is definitely better on regular DVD movies. It's a tiny bit bet
Cons: Controls on front of player are very hard to see so expect to use the remote control for everything.
Summary: Must say something here in response to negative comments by other reviewers. Sony has a nearly identical model costing $39 more which has built-in Wi-Fi. Both models were on display ...
Summary: Must say something here in response to negative comments by other reviewers. Sony has a nearly identical model costing $39 more which has built-in Wi-Fi. Both models were on display in the several different stores we visited. The tag on the shelf says "Wi-fi ready" or "Wi-fi built-in". What more do you need? When asked, all the salespeople told us to get that higher priced model if we wanted to use Wi-fi instead of spending $80 to add Wi-fi to this S370 model. So, clearly, anyone giving this S370 model a low rating or negative comments because it does not include Wi-fi or that the extra $80 dongle is too pricey, well, they just didn't do their homework and they want to blame someone else for their mistake. Imagine buying a car with a standard 4-cylinder engine then complaining that it's not a 6-cylinder! Same principle .... And, if you don't want to pay $80 to Sony for a dongle, consider buying a pair of Powerline type network adapters for around the same price. That will give you a stable, wired connection to your home network and the internet. You simply plug them in and they work with no setup problems; definitely a good option! Also, someone complained about not being able to use their USB flash drive which has been re-formatted with a non-standard file system (NTFS). 99% of all flash drives ever made come with the standard FAT32 file system and that works perfectly on the Sony player. Once again, someone failed to do their homework. If they want playback of a non-standard format let them search out a fancy, higher-price Blu-ray play that copes with it. The only one I've seen costs $499, so why criticise this excellent little Sony player for following the industry standard? Bottom line is this Sony BDP-S370 is a high-performance Blu-ray and DVD player for a modest price.

It fills my needs in a Blu Ray
by DaveSFV on December 3, 2010
Pros: This is an excellent BluRay player that fullfills a basic player requirement that I desired.
Cons: The remote is a bit complicated and not intuitive but BluRay is a new formatt that is different in using so maybe being intuitive is that it is just different.
Summary: bought this player to play some classic movies that I want to see in HD. I've have a HDTV for about 9 months. Love it. But I wanted to ...
Summary: bought this player to play some classic movies that I want to see in HD. I've have a HDTV for about 9 months. Love it. But I wanted to see some of my all time movies in HD, so when the Sony S370 became available for $99 I could not resist. I ordered the BluRay and a couple of DVD's. The Searchers was on, originallly shot in VistaVision (70mm and three strip color) it was a test for the player. The S370 did just fine and I could not detect anything that I could object too. Basic player that is a solid in image quality.

by getadeal53 on September 18, 2010
Pros: Hey! I bought this three months ago and it works flawlessly. Fast clean blu-ray images on my new LG 46LD550 display, just put in Star Trek 2009 or Narnia Prince Caspian, or LOTR and you will see what i mean. NO handshake issues all for under $180.00!
Cons: none, its just perfect even the load drawer opening is on the remote!

Summary: Get this player if you want a great performing product that is fast well built and inexpensive. And no i diddn't need all the streaming stuff that the s570 has. Fastest load times on the market even for the fully loaded BD's Image quality is top notch and i can say this as i have had two other players, and one previeous 42" display from (2007) The LG 46LD550 is an excellent display also and after calibration,(ala the Video essentials Blu-ray) set up i am amazed at the clarity and depth of the picture and colors. That's it get this if you want a soild performing player that does just what it says, that's it.

Displayed 4:3 DVD correctly on 16:9 TV
by correction1 on April 22, 2010
Pros: Contrary to an earlier reviewer's comment, 4:3 DVDs display correct aspect ratio on a 16:9 TV.
Cons: None so far.
Summary: I was interested in getting a BDP-S370, but on seeing ejohnson53's March 9, 2010 comment, I tried my own 4:3 DVD in a store. The salesman changed settings ...

Feature packed if you can pick it up for a few saw $$
by Bdubslawman on September 8, 2011
Pros: -Online Streaming (for AMAZON among many others) not always easy to find it.
-Small/compact design
-Output DTS & Dolby HD sound
-Great picture
-Decent start up speed
-adds a feature to look up data about the disc being playedCons: -Not wireless (w/o buying a propriatery dongle)
-Missing some popular apps; lacks the ability to upgrade/buy the missing.
-LIGHT DOESN'T CHANGE FROM WHITE TO BLUE (like previous Sony BR players) when inserting and playing a Blu-ray discSummary: I picked this Blu-ray player for $30 on clearance. Despite having another networked TV, Blu-ray player, etc. I was missing the Amazon app. to play streaming content I purchased, this ...
Summary: I picked this Blu-ray player for $30 on clearance. Despite having another networked TV, Blu-ray player, etc. I was missing the Amazon app. to play streaming content I purchased, this player offers that as well as streaming for popular sites; Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, Slacker and many more.
You think that's a problem that you have to enter a pin to make a purchase? Imagine if someone (kids, friends) where messing around and didn't understand what they were doing and racked up purchases under your account that you didn't want or authorize.
This player is basically 1/2 as high as my previous BDP-s560 model. Space wasn't a problem for me but for some this can really fit into a spall space as long as it gets enough space for cooling.
I paired this with a HT-SS370 HTIB and it's able to output LPCM HD sound and a great picture. It upconverts DVDs via HDMI. It's just an all around nice product/value especially for what I paid.
If you can find the wi-fi dongle cheap that would be even better. Performance seems all around good at this point. The only thing that could really derail it at this time is one of Sony's HORRIBLE problem causing firmware "updates".

great product for the money!
by unc25 on March 21, 2011
Pros: Price
FunctionalityCons: Nothing really except I didnt understand why they packaged standard RCA cables with a Blu-Ray player...I expected component cables at a minimum.
Summary: Purchased at a local retailer for under $80.00. I had been looking for a standard, basic, no frills Blu-Ray player and this one fit the bill! Has the option ...
Summary: Purchased at a local retailer for under $80.00. I had been looking for a standard, basic, no frills Blu-Ray player and this one fit the bill! Has the option to stream Netflix and other applications...I like the fact that it has an ethernet port for future firmware upgrades.
Overall happy with the product considering I didnt expect much from it and it has exceeded those expectations. -
Great value for a wired network
by restoration85 on February 5, 2011
Pros: Pros: Access to Netflix, Amazon VOD, Crackle, Pandora. Wonderful UI. Solid DVD upscaling and Blu-Ray playback - Does any player actually do a poor job at this?
Cons: Cons: Somewhat loud drive mechanism. Poor Netflix application that doesn't allow for browsing of titles outside of the queue. Requires a PIN on every Amazon VOD purchase.
Summary: I use it daily to watch content on Netflix and previously purchased episodes and movies from Amzn. The only trouble I've had with any online service were a couple ...
Summary: I use it daily to watch content on Netflix and previously purchased episodes and movies from Amzn. The only trouble I've had with any online service were a couple interruptions on Crackle during episodes of some classic TV shows. Quick Start-up even without activating the quick start-up feature that uses more power. Easy software update that didn't require me to download content to my pc, then move it to a flash drive, then to the player. Instead, a prompt appeared when I booted one day and I clicked the software update icon. Nice and Simple.
I purchased this from Walgreen's B&M for $99.99 and it has been well worth every penny. However, users that need Wi-Fi access should look elsewhere.
***I haven't tried Wi-Fi, Hulu Plus, Slacker, playback of files from USB, nor Sony's Qriocity service. -

Beware! The WiFi only works on Sony dongle
by Yong341 on April 19, 2011
Pros: Useless WiFi feature
Cons: The WiFi only works on Sony dongle and costs arms and legs! It will be better if Sony does not offer the "WiFi" feature. Only supported USB flash drive of FAT32 format. Does not support NTFS.
Summary: Very disappointed with Sony's cheap corporate tactic of propietary WiFi device with a price of almost the blu-ray player itself. Disgusting!
