Internet features are worthless.
by eamonnmcm on April 15, 2012
Pros: Decent BluRay player.
Cons: Internet features are worthless. There is a sort of browser that is almost completely unusable. Even if you can get past its lousy UI (a USB keyboard helps) it then does not remember passwords and also randomly locks up at the slightest provocation.
Summary: Get a cheaper device without Internet access, or a device from a different manufacturer where it actually works. Sony should be ashamed at releasing a device with such obviously substandard ...

constant stalling makes netflix and hulu unwatchable
by wrens_1997 on September 17, 2012
Pros: no pros -- we bought the unit for hulu and netflix access and the constant stalling makes them unwatchable.
Cons: constant stalling renders hulu and netflix unwatchable; we suffered through many tiers of tech support to have them blame it on the internet speed (it isn't - we have highest speed, all other computers have no issues, speedtests show at least 35)
Summary: Don't waste your time on this unit if you want Hulu or Netflix.

Summary: I don't see what the fuss is about with the other reviewers. I purchased this product, took it out of the box, hooked it up using HDMI for TV, component audio for surround sound, and Ethernet to wireless bridge and I'm watching Netflix streaming video without a hitch and fantastic picture quality. The unit is compact and the price was extremely reasonable. Video quality is excellent, easy to use and upscale of DVDs works well too. Sony = quality.

A bargain at $100. Has all the important services
by whirty on November 21, 2012
Pros: A simple interface that has a very shallow learning curve. All the important music and video services are there. Services and picture are fine, no problems with buffering or streaming. Blu-Ray works fine.
Cons: Search input using remote is slow. Pretty clearly has very little CPU/memory. Internet browser is not terribly useful.
Summary: Bought this chiefly to update a first gen smart tv. Was as attracted by the Sony Music Unlimited streaming service as by the usual suspects of Netflix, Vudu, Slacker, etc. ...
Summary: Bought this chiefly to update a first gen smart tv. Was as attracted by the Sony Music Unlimited streaming service as by the usual suspects of Netflix, Vudu, Slacker, etc. Did not buy it to surf the web (we have phones, tablets and laptops for that).
Writing this while listening to my LPCM-ripped albums on my DLNA server, using this as the conduit to my stereo. Refreshing to hear music the way it was meant to be listened to.
Overall, it works well - does what it does. DLNA works quite well - discovers any publicly available collections on the home network.
The only difference between this and the 590 appears to be 3-D capability.
Have not tried the android remote app and have not tried a usb keyboard mentioned in other reviews.

We earlier this evening rented a movie from Sony Video Unlimited, said rental is good for 30 days (yes, you read right, 30 days).
Set up my kids with child accounts so that they can build their own play lists on Music Unlimited. They seem to be enjoying being able to explore the catalog.
So, overall, this has been an excellent addition. Contemplating getting another.
The Android remote control App works with it flawlessly. Also has a means of passing web pages to and from the phone to the device.
