Summary: After our not-so-old Blu-ray player from Toshiba recently had more and more failures, most recently, he refused to play commercial CD's, it was time for a new device. Since me the technical capabilities and finesse of the Sony BDP-S5100 Blu-ray player, according to the description, convinced I opted for the Sony BDP-S5100, despite the still almost twice as expensive as a commercial brand Blu-ray player is.
To make it short, I have never regretted my decision, the Sony BDP-S5100 comes enthusiastic across the board in terms of functionality and variety of functions. As the product description on Amazon is very detailed, I save all of the features of the device to respond, and confine myself to the points that were particularly positive in the eye but also a few negative points.
The Sony BDP-S5100 scored well in particular the following points:
+ Installation and commissioning is fast and intuitive equip, a user is added, but is not required.
+ And networking with the Internet and the home network is done quickly and easily by equipping.
+ For the operation the user is not required, since this is in spite of the large number of functions are direct and intuitive and into shorter sub-menus.
+ Image quality of both discs as well as streaming content is a class by itself and leaves no wishes unfulfilled.
+ Contents of CD, DVD, and Blu-ray are loaded very quickly, just as quickly be downloaded from the home network and play music files streamed.
+ BDP-S5100 has an adjustable power saving in standby mode (when this feature is enabled, however, takes the wake from sleep or longer periods).
However, there is also the BDP-S5100 a few points stand out the negative:
- Although I do not like another reviewer complain that there will be interruptions in streaming movies, however, are the times that are needed to build a website, or the time needed to get from sites like Lovefilm a movie underground stream last long.
The router and the connection it can not be, I have a DSL line and put the 64,000 Asus RT-AC66U as a router. My Dell laptop with Intel7 processor and eight gigabytes RRAM for a 90 minute James Bond movie about twenty seconds to start, the BDP-S5100 needed for this but then about 4 minutes.
- Another criticism of hard for me at least weight to a minimum, that the BDP-S5100 only has a digital audio coaxial output is via which it can be connected to the home theater system, to an audio output via RCA seeks in vain. Owners of older stereo or home theater systems should bear this in mind before buying.
- Well, and the last but admittedly very subjective point of criticism is the much advertised by Sony design. In the pictures it might still be, but in the nature of the player but then reminded of a failed cross between miniature stealth fighter and coffin. I for one am glad that I am not the player must open up but the opportunity to have him hide discreetly in bookshelves.
CONCLUSION: Apart from the lack of RCA audio output and the still very weak performance when streaming movies from the Internet, the BDP-S5100, Sony is in its price range not only state of the art but what sets the standard operation and functionality concerns.
