Good Blu-ray player with wireless connectivity
by dvdirv on August 2, 2009
Pros: This player had fast load times and was easy to set up. The best feature of course is built-in wireless.
Cons: The remote with this player has features that are missing from the previous player, the BDP-S550.
Summary: The Sony BDP-S560 is a capable Blu-ray player. This is basically an updated 360 with wireless connectivity for BD Live functions.

Sony finally got it right by building wireless connectivity into the player itself. Previously, you needed to have a PS3 or buy a wireless add-on to have this feature. My viewing room is too far away from a wired connection, so wireless was the only way to go.
The 560 loads quickly and has most of the standard features you would expect from Sony. Setup was very fast and simple including the wireless feature. You just needed to search for your network and then manually input your password--that was it!
The only negative feature I could find was in the 560's remote. Sony took a step backward by offering less features than its predecessor, the BDP-S550. The last remote offered a lighted display. In addition, you had an open/close button that this new player does not offer. Buttons are not clustered logically around the center button . Even the BDP-S350, the former lower end player offered a better remote. Of course for $63 you can buy the 550's remote from Sony and use it with the 560.
The Sony BDP-S560 is a good player with the added wireless feature. It could have been an even better player with a decent remote.6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

The built in WIFi makes this an excellent value!
by molokuplus on August 6, 2009
Pros: Small footprint. Fast START-UP time (more on this later). Built in Wi Fi. Low price.
Cons: Remote buttons not logically laid out, easy to press other buttons by mistake. No remote light! No eject button!!!
Summary: <y player finally arrived yesterday and was a replacement for my original Sony BDP-S1 (Profile 1.0) which I paid $995 for in Dec. 2006. I was one of ...
Summary: <y player finally arrived yesterday and was a replacement for my original Sony BDP-S1 (Profile 1.0) which I paid $995 for in Dec. 2006. I was one of the original Blu ray pioneers!!
ps: Star rating is 3.5 stars, not 4.0 as originally written.
Setup was a snap. I was on my home network within minutes. The WiFi makes all the difference in the world. Network updates will be a snap. The advertised 6 second START-UP time is correct, it does start quickly as long as you leave the device enabled for fast start up which you do during the initial setup process. This makes it less energy efficient. Be advised that the fast start-up means just that. It powers on and is ready to load the disc in 6 seconds, however, if you have a disc with lots of JAVA features, you still have to wait for the JAVA features to load which averaged any where from 20 seconds to almost a minute. I was sort of disappointed in this. I think they are playing with words on the advertised load time. You still have to wait for JAVA enabled discs to load.. When a Blu ray player comes out that can both start-up and load a JAVA enabled disc in under 10 seconds, I will buy it. Other than that, the other gripe I have is the crummy remote. Very cheaply made, too small, no back-light and button layout is terrible as I found myself fumbling around pushing the wrong buttons. I am going to shop around for another remote for this player, perhaps there is one out there.
All in all though I rate this player 4 stars despite these little shortcomings.

by kscotty on January 22, 2010
Pros: Great picture.
Cons: Just hung up with customer support for sony. This player will never have Netflix streaming it is not capable via firmware. They have no intention of making any adapter either.

Best Blu-Ray Player

Summary: Don't ask me how, but all I did was go to Best Buy to ask them about the upcoming playe; when I left the store I had one in my hand. Supposedly they just came in stock, but are not supposed to sale them until next month. Due to a glitch (I'm Sure) there was no sale date in the computer so they sold it to me. I bought this one because I was so upset with the Sharp player I bought less than 6 months ago. It literally played about 40% of the movies (even with the latest software updates). Now that the Sony's are more affordable I decided to go with this player and I couldn't be happier. Setup was incredibly fast, and the Wi/FI couldn't be easier. The best thing about this player is the load times. As soon as I turn the power on, it almost instantly starts playing and the movie began playing in less than 10 seconds (huge difference compared to old player). There is a usb port in the front for easy access to BD-Live features. Another thing I love is with the WI/FI, all I have to do for updates in the future is pretty much hit one button and the player updates itself. Big difference than before where I had to search and find the update on my computer and tranfer to flash disk to player. I absolutely love this player.

Does not stream internet video
by Homesteader-2 on January 10, 2010
Pros: Boots quickly. Sets up easily.
Cons: Surprisingly, the Sony BDP-S560 does not stream online video from popular commerical services like Amazon Video-On-Demand. Even the latest upgrade to the firmware does not allow Netflix, Blockbuster, or any other streaming service to function.
Summary: The absence of the ability to stream video makes the built in WiFi, nearly pointless (the only use seems to be to access BD Live content available on some blu-ray ...

I strongly recommend the LG BD390 instead.
The less expensive Sony BDP-N460 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) with a WiFi adapter (Linksys by Cisco WET610N Wireless-N Ethernet Bridge with Dual-Band is preprogrammed to work with the N-460) or a dedicated Roku HD-XR Player unit is apparently a better choice for those desiring streaming video over WiFi.

Super value, less than $199, excellent BluRay picture
by ADKplodder on December 19, 2009
Pros: Effortless start up and connection to my home wireless network. Easy linkup with NetFlix. Upconverting of old (non-HD) DVDs is remarkably great! Lots of easy connection options.
Cons: Nothing I do not like about this unit. Not sure what all the fuss about the remote is. For me it's fine.

Summary: The set up, start up and configuration was effortless. It was so quick that I was almost disappointed that I didn't have to fuss with it more. It immediately found my home Wi-Fi network and I linked to NetFlix quickly too. The picture quality is excellent, absolutely excellent!!. It up converts non-HD DVDs excellently too; I'm watching all my old DVDs again. I suppose the remote could be better, but it's fine in my opinion and certainly would not change my purchasing decision. For under $199 it's a great value. They were in stock at 3 big box stores and online, so I got the best current price.
