The good: Blu-ray player with built-in Google TV; revolutionary Google TV software enables potential access to virtually all online media, with a powerful interface; user interface overlays TV content from cable/satellite box; can control TV, AV receiver, and cable/satellite box with IR blasters; Google search bar looks through both online and offline content; built-in Chrome browser supports Flash and HTML5 video; Android Marketplace coming in 2011.
The bad: Frustrating controller handles neither Google TV or Blu-ray well; major content providers like Hulu, CBS, and ABC are currently blocking Google TV; user interface geared toward power users; Google's "universal" search doesn't search Netflix; antiquated Netflix interface; limited app selection at launch; expensive compared with other Wi-Fi Blu-ray players; doesn't work with older, non-HD TVs.
The bottom line: The Sony NSZ-GT1 combines Google TV and Blu-ray in a single box, but Sony's frustrating controller, the high price, and Google TV's content issues make it a tough sell.

Great addition to media entertainment
by dlb313 on July 22, 2011
Pros: Able to watch U-Verse and able to stream netflix, amazon, etc web browse and soon more this fall when android 3.1 Honeycomb is realeased.
Cons: This is slanted to all media outlets like CNET and others who have not updated this product's info since October 2010. It's late July 2011 and tech capabilities have changed since then. Get with it!
Summary: This is a great addition for the kitchen, bedroom or media room. If you already have a Blu-Ray player then purchase the Logitech Revue.

Device compatibility sux,only 4 gigs,no antivirus avail
by lxsmq1975 on July 13, 2011
Pros: Has Neat Apps for media streaming and music, comes in very handy when your computer is down if your using it just to surf the net & email and simple stuff like that. Of course excellent for watching movies!
Cons: Its a pretty pricey gadget for the limited capabilities it has as for downloading & saving files and its compatibility w/ other electronic devices (ex: av receivers, non HDMI TV's, home theatre systems etc) sucks. I'd do some research B4 buying it

Broken promises from Google.
by jrf19812000 on June 20, 2011
Pros: Easy setup.
Cons: Not enough apps. Google promises apps but hasn't delivered in a year. You have to pay extra to integrate it with Dish Network. Freezes at times. The processor speed is too slow. Does not support HULU or common websites like NBC
Summary: I replaced it with McTivia by Awind. I now can mirror 8 computers on one HDTV.

This is a VERY useful toy to have!
by superflydisco on April 27, 2011
Pros: Very cool to have the internet to look up anything while sitting around with friends watching TV. Access to just about everything. Sure there's a block on a couple sites, who cares? You can find that content on other sites. With the controller, I feel li
Cons: Some applications have some bugs to work out yet. You Tube crashes from time to time. Navigation on others is a little clunky too, but I can only assume that will improve with time. I can't get the unit to control my older Sony A/V unit yet. I'm hoping th

I know some cable boxes don't work with this unit yet but my Comcast 1080 HD box works perfect. It's program search engine is really cool. With constant updates, this unit is gonna be fun to have. I love being able to watch almost anything I desire at any time. The future has arrived!!

I love this product!
Pros: I think the remote is easy to use, especially if you are used to texting on a phone. I really like the fact I can connect to Netflix and watch movies online, or play them through the Blu-ray player. I also like checking Facebook right on my TV!
Cons: I have some issues with changing TV inputs using only the Sony remote, but they are very minor issues. It changes the inputs just not as conveniently as my TV remote does.

Don't waste your money on this
Pros: Plays blu-rays and I liked the remote
Cons: Couldn't go to websites like abc.com and nbc.com that I can go on with my computer.

Summary: When I found that I couldn't go on abc.com and watch modern family I couldn't believe it. I bought a playstation move and hooked my laptop up to my tv but wished I had bought a Xbox kinect or a cheap blu-ray saved a ton of money. Windows Media Center has the best Netflix app I have found yet and it was on my laptop already.

Love it! Boxee fan turned to google tv for good!
by dmw7752 on December 30, 2010
Pros: -I dont know what CNETs problem is. This is the best remote I have ever used!
-Knowing google and how they work this product is going to get better and better FAST! It may be limited right now, but I think it will soon become the best media centerCons: The only cons about this are going to be fixed as soon as google opens the market for google tv...after that developers will write every thing anyone has ever wanted or needed.
Summary: I honestly was happy with boxee but I think in a short amount of time google tv will far surpass any competitors out there.

I would recommend this product!!
by TroyWoodfin on December 28, 2010
Pros: Intuitive,integrates Directv,Television,Google Internet flawlessly.Great apps,Netflix,Pandora,Crackle, Youtube.
BLu-Ray player is awesome.
I got mines for $299.00,the $100 savings made my decision that much easier.Cons: Remote not illuminated or back lit.
Volume should work independently for internet and television. No way to mute volume from one source while focusing on the other. -
Great innovation product
by Matthew M on November 30, 2010
Pros: Converges many entertainment options that were previously stuck on small computer screens!
Cons: Small documentation and UI issues that seem like defects until you learn them. Must have Picasa account created prior GTV setup - won't recognize. Antiquated Netflix app shows instant queue, but easily solved by accessing Netflix with the browser.
Summary: Enables my 40" HDTV to become a home entertainment center... music through Pandora radio, Netflix, Amazon movies, Chrome web browser, Picasa album slideshows, etc. Wow . Game changer! Plus if you ...
Summary: Enables my 40" HDTV to become a home entertainment center... music through Pandora radio, Netflix, Amazon movies, Chrome web browser, Picasa album slideshows, etc. Wow . Game changer! Plus if you have stuff that isn't supported yet... you can connect your laptop to the TV set. As a non-cable tv subscriber this is perfect. I get my TV from the internet now, and although there are licensing delays with Hulu & others, it's coming soon. Totally dig the little keyboard. Love being able to type quickly (unlike the Wii virtual interface).
